I was wondering if anyone had done one of these. I was gonna go gas because I already have a DA 50, but I am reconsidering after seeing your post. I was also thinking of converting my 25% pitts to electric. If you are willing to p.m. me , I would really like pointers on my ultimate and to get more info. Thanks

I was so glad to see this conversion. I have an Ultimate the currently has a DA50 in it that I want to convert as it needs more power and this looks like just the ticket.

Did you end up doing something different with your battery tray? I figured they would need to go either in through the bottom of the firewall or up thru that hatch on the bottom.

Also, what 3-Blade did you end up using and how many amps are you pulling at wot?

Thanks, Marty

The batteries went in through the underside hatch ! The propeller was a 24x12 3 blade wide prop the thin spins too many rpm and shuts off timing ! And wt wot she was about 120 it was a beast !!

I received my 24-12 3-blade today. It is quite the prop. What is the secret to dealing with the short prop shaft?

With my spinner back plate on, I only have about 1/2 the nut engaged.

I was originally going to try a Vess 25B that I had but it was so thick there was no shaft left to put the nut on.

I have a Biela 24-12 3-blade Carbon Prop and Tru-Turn Ultimate Spinner.
As you can see, there isn't much shaft sticking out of the prop.

Any ideas?

Yep, RimFire 65. Here it is with the Vess 26B on it. Same thing as both props are about the same thickness at the hub.

I'm thinking I will need to make or have made, a special nut that has an extended 13mm end on it to go up inside the prop. I would then have to ream the front part of the prop out to fit over the 13mm part of the nut. The prop washer that came with the motor has a 13mm center hole. The nut would need to go up into the prop about 3/8" or so.

I measured from the face of the drive plate to the end of the shaft is just under 15/8" and the props are 1-1/8" thick. So even with no spinner back plate there is only 1/2" of prop shaft sticking out. The drive plate may move back a bit as things get tightened down, but I don't see it moving much.

Why would they say NOT to run the thin "E" props and then put this short shaft on? It doesn't make any sense.

Nice build and great look`er.. whats your thoughts on the RF65 so far ? How many Watts are you pulling with the 26x12 ? I have one on my Sbach 89` but have not flown it yet as my field is WAY to small..

My props all fit however I have a Biela 18x10 and that is a fat pig of center hub. They are really thick. I have that on a different plane but I dont think it would fit. I am running a 24x10 on the rimfire and am not all that impressed compared to the Turnigy CA-80 I am running on my pitts with a 24x10. The CA-80 is pretty violent.

I just downloaded the Castle log and it explains why my 87inch yak performs boringly. Its only pulling 71.5 amps at 3157 watts on a 24x10 prop. Thats on 12s. I think it could handle a much larger prop but you would then have a gyroscopic problem from the large prop torque. Thats if a larger prop would clear the ground. Maybe the 3 blade is the only option.

Thats pitiful isn't it ! Testing on the RF65 with a 26x12 shows me over 6000 watts. Do you have the clearance for that ?
