I was surprised that a model of this size used balsa for the D-box and not ply.....

Finally got mine in the air this past weekend. About 10 flights. No problems.

I like the color! Did you reinforce the wing at all?

Ken, a very handsome color scheme. What did you recover with? Any mods to the inner wings?

TIA,

Steve

See post #316 for mods to the inner wing panels. Basically basswood spars and ply shear webs.

I used Stits Lite to recover the plane and the Polyfiber paint system. Probably the same thing as on the full size except for the fabric weight. The Bahama Blue and Christian Eagle Blue look like they are a perfect match right out of the can.

Thanks Ken, how did you go about covering the fuse, especially the transition around the areas where the fuse transitions to the wing roots.

Notice to Owners of Phoenix Models K8B 6000mm Sailplane ARF

If you purchased a K8B 6000mm Sailplane ARF (PMMA1580) from Tower Hobbies or a Great Planes authorized dealer, please note that Phoenix Models recently re-examined and redesigned the model’s two inboard wing sections.

This change is in response to one structural failure in the United States and reports of instances elsewhere in the world. New, replacement inboard wing sets have been shipped to Hobbico and are expected to arrive at our Champaign facility around the end of November.

These sets replace the parts originally included with your model, at no cost to you. If you purchased your ARF from Tower Hobbies, you should receive yours around the end of November or the first of December.

The new inboard wing sets will also be sent to authorized Great Planes dealers selling the K8B. Customers who bought their model through such a dealer should contact that dealer directly for their replacements.

Thank you for your patience. We hope you enjoy your Phoenix Models K8B for many flights to come!

Sincerely,

Bill Baxter, Manager

Bill,

Now that just proves the are still some great companies out there that stand behind their products. Thank you Hobbico and Phoenix Models for taking care of this problem.

See Ya,
