How Old Is Your Car?
The average age of American's cars is at an all time high. No big shocker with the economy in the crapper.
We own two cars, a 2005 Toyota Corolla (all around great car) and a 1981 VW diesel Rabbit pickup.
The VW is an oldie but at 50 MPG and very simple to maintain I consider it irreplaceable.
The Toyota is primarily my wife's but her commute is only 3 rural miles.
My commute is about 14 miles but I frequently bicycle it.
With the present economy and our driving habits, we plan to drive these vehicles until they turn back into dust.
How about you?
Wife: 2005 Nissan Xterra Good car
Me: 2001 Silverado V-6 All the truck I need. Good mileage and bulletproof. I have anytime access to 4x4s and HDs for any heavy hauling or going places I shouldn't.
I love looking at new trucks, would especially like some of the new Chevy's in the $40-50,000 range and can afford it, but why? I drive an average of >90 miles a week and besides, I wouldn't want to get a brand new high buck truck dirty or scratched. My truck has one tiny dent, no scratches except the inside of the bed which looks like a cat fight went bad, the floorboards are shaped exactly like a trash can. I religiously wash it once a year whether it needs it or not. I'm happy and the money saved on truck payments goes to a better place.
Wife's SUV makes her extremely happy, she can stuff grandkids in it like a clown car and the charcoal gray interior contrasts nicely with the 2" thick layer of beach sand on everything.
No plans in the near future to replace either one.

The only reason I would replace the first two is if one crapped out on me, and that would be a cheap vehical paid for with cash. Just can't justify any kind of credit in this economic environment.
My sons would kill me if I sold the Mustang.
