Build Log
28" Twin Prop Nutball with Photos and Videos

I got motivated to build a Twin Nutball after making a 10" version with the guts of a toy plane. I got it to fly good, then decided to build a "proper" bigger version with full control.

Maiden Flight

Twin Nutball 1st Flight (3 min 2 sec)

Folowing flight with new motors

28" Twin Pusher Nutball (4 min 4 sec)

Best flights, (almost finished model)

Twin Nutball take 2 (2 min 42 sec)

28" Twin Nutball 27/04/13 (8 min 41 sec)

This is the little one that started it all

Mini Nutball.wmv (2 min 7 sec)

On Board Camera (HD)

28" Twin NB doing some high alpha flying (1 min 2 sec)

Check my YouTube channel for more clips.

The project

More than anything, really, the reason to start this log is to keep me motivated and finish the project, as well as sharing with the RC community here.

-Basic info;

-28 inches diameter
-2x 2050KV motors on 8" Contra Rotary props
-Differential throttle control (mixes done on the TX)
-Will have landing gear,
-I'm using 6mm Depron and some 3mm ply to reinforce certain areas.
-Here are some pics of the project so far,

diff throttle test

In this clip I'm testing the mix for the first time, I've done some more fine tuning since to the rudder to throttles mix, (applying some Expo and reducing rate)

I'm using Channels 3 and 5 for throttle outputs, Ch3 mixed with 5 100% and then both have a mix with rudder.

My TX is a much modified Fly sky FS-TH9X, (Mode 2), running the awesome ER9X firmware, with an internal FrSky DHT 8ch DIY Telemetry Compatible Transmitter Module, and a FrSky D6FR RX.

28" Twin NB motors first test. (0 min 47 sec)

Thanks for posting this thread. I also am looking to build a twin engine nutball, but I don't think I can do throttle differential with my Futaba 7cap so I was going with rudder control
Looking forward to the rest of your build and flights.

Thank you

I've seen some people using V tail mixers for diff throttle, see here,

OK, I won't make any jokes about short propellers. This thing is way cool! Fun to watch it develop.

Compared with the 22" the new 28" one doesn't seem that much bigger.

Those twin rudders look great with the twin motors, I'm going to have to do a micro version of this.

I have some 3gr motors, but I'll have to wait till I destroy a plane first for the electrics.
It took a lot of searching till I finally found some 3'' and 4'' CR-props. I have a few 5gr motors and they seem to run best on a 5'' prop.(2000kv)
