Donation Drive Thread (need some wingmen)
Last week we came together to find the better sides of ourselves.
A RC donation drive snowballed into a really fun and worthwhile event.
That thread is here.
I have been contacted by many guys wanting to help out further.
I've decided to put this on a bigger scale with a new direction.
Hope you guys will help.
I am asking for Wingmen only at this time.
I want to discuss how we can move this idea forward.
My hope is to perhaps help a worthwhile cause and make a good name for RC people in general.
My thought is a donation drive that will get underway soon and benefit a whole Community, Hospital, Church, etc or ?????.
If you have time, look around in the cabinets, drawers, etc. and set a few items off to the side that you can live without.
I will be contacting my LHS and local businesses for some support as well.
This takes alot of work, time, and energy.
I am looking for solid guys that will assist in this effort.
Please lets keep this discussion civil and positive.
If you feel this is a scam or dishonest in any way,
please move on to the next thread.
What I am asking for at this time is guys to help me coordinate this effort.
I need a few Solid Wingmen.

I am seeking people at this time.
Good honest people that can devote to a good cause that ask nothing in return.
Discussion at this point is the best way to move forward.
A small group to head this idea into a positive direction.
What I found last week is that an effort like this took.......
Any ideas of how to move forward is open and on the table.

I had a novel idea ,when we did this the last time.
If anyone has something they want to sell,and donate the proceeds to this charity,place the asking price as a starting bid...The bidding ends every Friday at midnight,and the buyer PP's the Charitable Drive's e-mail on the weekend.
Some people may have paid more for some of the items donated in the first successful drive.-We did well,understand,I won't deny that,and we're still remembering the joy of watching the benefit grow.
I believe we need a "visible" cause-not an Institution,or Charity,but rather a family that needs a breather.-a tank of gas,an electric bill paid,forestalling a cutoff,groceries,anything that will balance the budget,allowing a good night's sleep without worry.
-Sick Kids,Homecoming Vets,One New Jersey club stages a fly-in every year for the Make-a-wish Foundation-(do pretty well,too)....
I'm a donater,not an organizer,but you can count me in for cash..
These are suggestions,and there'll be no hard feelings if they are not utilised.
Let's get this baby flying !

Thanks Earl, glad to have you here buddy.
I agree on a visible cause.
As we know many "charities" have operating expenses that wipe out any proceeds.
I would choose to proclaim that 100% goes to the cause.
I just made an important phone call to an Attorney friend of mine.
He likes the idea, and will assist as an advisor and legal representative.
At this time he has offered to set up a 501 3C at no charge to us.
He says" It's pretty expensive unless you have an atty. that will do it for free"...then he chuckles
This allows donations to be used as a tax exempt gift.
Obviously, this knowledge is beyond my pay grade.
I fully trust this man to implement this phase of the effort.
We're lucky to have the option available.
This seems like a good first step to be looking at.

Per our conversations behind the scenes, count me in Dave. I like Epoxyearl's Auction Idea for donated Items and gear. I'm here to help where I can. Putting some thought into this, as you know. We all can help, no matter how large or small the effort. Let's Roll..........

I know you missed the last thread, just barely though.
your desire is well received here.
I want this to be smooth sailing all the way around.
Fun for everybody, and effective.
I can offer every bit of free time I have.
I'd like to focus on the best way of communication moving forward.
I lack in those areas.......Big Time.
How best can we communicate conveniently yet effectively?
Right here? Will they allow it?

Sellers wishing to participate can offer a donation option with payments received to them. Once the visible entity is laid out at that time, they know who/what they are helping, etc. eBay does this at checkout and I always donate when I purchase an item.
Also to help new guys out in the sport, who do not have the means or gear to get into this great hobby/sport, as well as helping others in need.
Just a few thoughts coming your way at present. Yeah, I think right here is a good way to communicate and brain storm some ideas until you get this off the ground and running like a well oiled machine, or Glow Engine. lol

Ok guys, just got off the phone.
Pretty good news..........
I have secured an Accounting firm to assist us.
They will provide documentation and tax advice to move forward.
I have an appointment next week to set down with him and discuss some options.
Many things to consider here, legal, tax stuff, etc.
He also stated he would keep track of any funds, balances, etc. incoming and outgoing.
I do not fully understand it all, but will report here after the meeting.
The accountant and Lawyer have worked together in the past and are solid guys.
Both have offered to assist at no charge.

just a few thoughts,back in 1983 when I was a manager for Mcdonalds in MA,they had just passed a bottle deposit fee.I setup an old time type bottle drive for MDS in August and had the maintenance guys save all the bottles they picked up all summer from the parking lot.Come labor day weekend we turned over a check for over $1000 and worked the telethon phones in Boston for 3 hours.My personnel charity of choice is St.Judes.

I don't think the admins actually allow this sort of thing,but they were coy enough to leave the e-mail addy the last time this sort of thing happened,which was greatly appreciated and noted.
Have a spokesman run it by the front office and see if it's time for RCGroups to get aboard an effort such as this-can't be bad for our image,certainly.

My thought were that RC guys can do this best.
And yes, presenting the website in a positive way is important.
