As this Syma X1 is similar to the v929 and also using the FlySky protocol (9x compatible), it should be worth a test on a v929 setup.

Hard to tell from the photo, does the Syma board have plugs for the motors, or do they have to be soldered on?

No plugs.
No Problem ror anybody with at leats minimal soldering skills

That Syma bug canopy reminds me of the old Outer Limits episode called The Zanti Misfits....

I've seen many people worried about using Turnigy nano bateries with V929 because of different plug.Too much whining about soldering.

Batery for V929 -turnigy nano modified for JST plug without soldering.Remove the the pins, out of original molex conector ,extend the pin hook out in order to secure it , and insert in a male jst plug.That's it,finished.You can use the battery with V929 board.

or buy correct 600mAh nanotech that already have jst plug

In that case I would think about building a short jst-losi adapter (should weight very little I think) instead of putting jst on 300mAh batteries, so I can still use them on all other micro quads.
I'm starting to have too many lipos around

Why would you drop down from 600mah to 300mah??????

I'm considering the same. I find the weight with the 808 camera is a bit annoying and I don't need to fly the camera for more than 3-5m/flight anyway. I have 3 V929's and only one is for video so the other 2 are for long-fun-fast flights.

bigger batteries reduce motor life. more weight causes shorter life as does extended operation. the candle that burns brightest....

these pagers need all the help they can get in that department.

The new batery is 8 grams versus 12 grams stock batt.
The stock canopy is 3.4 grams versus paper canopy around 0.7-1.2 grams.

You can reduce almost 6 grams weight only from that.This is huge....improvement.
I prefer weight less than weight more.Lol!

My understanding is that for the same C rating, a 600 mAh battery provides twice the current discharge capability as that of a 300 mAh one. So there is a trade that needs to be considered. I just tried both 600 and 300 Nano-Tech's, and with the 300, climb rate is essentially zero, whereas with the 600 it is at least flyable. (Observations are of my old beat up v929, YMMV.)

I finally got mine fully functional again. I thought it was a bad motor but turns out it was the red wire leading right into the motor. It was still connected but ever so slightly broken. A quick soldering job and its like new. I'm thinking the motor cover might have pinched it on a crash.
