Slipstream 30cc Yak55M

I got a Slipstream 30cc Yak55M for Father's Day.... she's pretty close to being ready for the maiden. Hopefully the week of July 4th.

Here's a few pictures... one with all the parts dry fitted and the other with the DLE30 mounted and the engine cowling cut.

This is my 2nd Slipstream airframe... my 1st was the sBach342 (green/white color scheme). The Yak55m kit came with a new version tail wheel assembly and the firewall/engine cowling distance was preset for a DLE30 V2.. which made for a perfect bolt on of the engine.

Anyone else got this Yak55m?

well I've already built her! I upgraded the CA hinges to Robart Pin Hinges cause I like the smoother movement and full deflection. I think I've got at least 50 degrees on all surfaces.

I'm down to installing the control arm/bolts and setting the rates.... and setting up the pull pull rudder. I found a great deal on aluminum control arms (for the HS645MG servos) on HK USA warehouse website! $4.50 each for the 2" long control arms. I did have to tap them out for the larger retaining screws but still a scammer deal IMHO

I hope to maiden her next week.

Missed my opportunity on Tuesday this week for the maiden flight. Shooting for this coming Saturday if the weather holds out.

Here's the report.... I put two flights on the Slipstream 30cc Yak55M this morning... the used DLE30 (bought it from Rich B at an amazing price) performed flawlessly and had plenty of power to haul this setup around. The AUW with a full tank of gas is 10lbs 12oz.

1st flight of 8 mins long was to get the control surfaces dialed in. It took some right aileron trim and two ticks of down elevator to get straight and level flight patterns. Tested the stall point up high and she dropped her right wing predictably. Did about 1/2 dozen touch n goes to get a feel for the proper landing speed. I checked the fuel level after flight 1 and there was still 1/2 a tank left in the 12oz can.

2nd flight I took the timer up to 10 mins and flipped her to high rates (full deflection on all surfaces 45 degrees or better, 80% expo on ailerons and elevator and 60% expo on the rudder).

Excellent characteristics in full on harriers.. she floats predictably and only had a slight wing rock. Rolling harriers almost do the full circle by themselves with just elevator input during the roll. She did have a slight tendency to pull to the LG during Knife Edge flight. Excellent flat spins...

IMAC/Pattern type flying... easy to control humpy bumps, slit S, half cuban 8's, loops and inverted flight.

Now the bad part... the land gear is WAY to soft... on the 2nd flight I had a small bounce that squatted the landing gear enough to allow the prop tip to strike...I'm using an 18x8 Xoar... the prop was toast and I hadn't packed my spares... the flying for the Yak was done for the day.

I'll be looking at TNT's website for a compatable aluminum replacement for the stock landing gear.

Hey fly I know what you mean about the gear I have the Sbach and the gear is very soft let me know what you find because I am eyeing this model and might pick it up in the next few days, also the dle is a perfect fit? I hate to cut another motor box.

Here's the two options I'm looking at.

The Aluminum Yak-54 73" WS 8" tall PN: LG27-1747 for $49.00 from
http://www.tntlandinggear.com

Or the GraphTechRC CF landing gear for the Slipstream 30cc Sbach 342 is $47 http://www.graphtechrcshop.com/produ...&categoryId=34

I'd recently put TNT Aluminum LG on my 30% Pilot RC Extra 260 (replacing the frail CF gear) and I love it. I'll probably go with the TNT gear for the Yak.

I just noticed your Yak has the same looking gear as my Sbach not the bowed gear you normally see on Yaks

yes, you are correct, I think the Yak and sBach from Slipstream use the same landing gear.
