f3a & f3c are both the classes for pattern competition which is precision aerobatics. There are numerous classes in competition depending on what you are flying They'll be denoted by letters/numbers that are set up by the FAI (Federal Aeronautique Internationale) which is the world sanctioning body for international aviation competition.
Go look on the AMA website at the various types of competition (scale, pattern, pylon, glider, free flight, control line, etc) and you'll be able to see the various classes, their designations, and read the full competition rules for each class.
