Why don't you do a build thread? I would love to see how you do a larger one and I bet many others would too!

Hi Billo
Will consider build thread. I have always liked the F4 and I like sloper's technique. His turned out nice. I scaled his drawings 140% mainly for fitting retracts. I use a fibreglass/foam/fibreglass sandwitch in most of my builds and prefer a built up wing and tail feathers. I have a jetset44 F15 and a scratch me 262 on the go right now. ( both for fans ). Since I am retired now, I may get a start in a month or so.
....gotta love this stuff.

Great build Joe! I didn't see an answer to my question so I am going to ask it. I am curious to know how you are joining your pieces. I think you said epoxy, if so does it sand well with the foam or do you have a special trick for having such a nice finish product? I don't see any tabs so I assume these are all butt joints?

Thanks!

yep I used epoxy squeegied on and use alcohol wipes to clean off any that squishes out of the joint. I know alot of folks poopoo epoxy but if you dont over do it useing it its doesnt add alot of weight. I've tried CA but it just seems to be to brittle for foam.
and yes all the joints on the Phantom are butt joints.
as far as sanding it sands fine, if you sand when the epoxy is still "green" it will smooth out nicely, I will generally sand after the epoxy has set for 1/2hr or so, good and strong joint but still soft enough to sand out easily.

so there ya go, I am a taboo builder...

Thanks for the reply. I have recently started building with epoxy and have been thrilled with the bond power. I have found it a bit tough to sand but after your comment about squeeging and wiping the excess I think I will have better luck. I have been planning on stacking the dollar tree foam and after seeing your results I definitely will be trying it! Great job sir and thanks for posting your build log... very informative!

hey no problem, just to be clear I dont use epoxy to laminate, I use Loktite 200 spray adhesive for that
