Wondering what people prefer to use for gluing $tree foam board? In Canada we have the equivalent Dollarama; and also a $tree location in Vancouver that just opened up. I have Lepage foam safe spray glue for laminating sheets of paperless foam board, but what would be the best glue for the other parts?

Foam Safe CA: Not available in Canada, and i dont want to order it (takes too long)

Gorilla Glue: Too much foaming and mess?

Regular Super Glue: Melts Foam

Hotglue: Too heavy, and not strong enough for it's weight to be worth it.

Beacon 3-1: Available in Canada? If so, i was looking towards this?

I've read a bunch of threads, but i can't seem to understand which is the best.

FWIW, you should be able to buy foam safe CA at your LHS.
Great hobbies or Hobby Wholesale also sell it (granted you did say you did not want to order it)

I like the Great Planes medium when working with Depron, along with their foam safe activator,
I also use UHU Por or "Canopy Glue", depending on the type of joint. Both are lighter than CA, but are slower to cure.

If your in Van you should be able to get foam safe CA and Beacon foam tac which would both work .I for 1 love Gorilla glue white . Once you figure it out and learn to control the foaming its great . Hot glue is another option but it takes a nac to get it right . Micheals has 3in1 but it has acetone which will eat the foam

I just checked the LHS that has the best prices usually. (I completely forgot about them since been focused on Michaels for some reason)

THey have ZAP Formula Canopy glu 2 oz for $3.75

Zap oderles foam safe medium ca 1 oz $9.49

and the kickers for $5-ish.

Bear in mind that the canopy glue is an overnight cure, not instant.

I did not like the ZAP foam safe CA as much as the Great Planes.

What do you mean you did not like it? Is it not as strong? Not as fast drying? Kicker doesnt work as efficiently with it as Great Planes?

i used 3 types of glue :
Hot glue - quick and cheap ( for motor mount, control horns, etc )
Fabric-Tac - you can find it at walmart, pretty cheap stuff, melt foam a little if you apply too much but the bond is pretty strong.
Epoxy - a little more expensive, really strong but also a little heavy if apply too much, drying time is a little long.

i mostly use Fabric-Tac and Hot glue ( i used to use Hot glue and epoxy, but Epoxy take too long to dry )

Quick grip is another alternative. (Sold at walmart)
It will attack Depron, but only slightly so. Experiment with it a bit. Once you get comfortable with it, it will work for you in some places. Anytime you got a glob of it though, bad things may happen. Spread thin, and let it air out for a bit before joining.
Welders is more or less the same thing. Makes excellent hinges with depron or epp.

I have done 2 planes with Beacons now. Works well on some things but poorly on others. I used it to hold cf spars in and I kept having the rods work their way loose. I also used it on zip ties that I was using as skid plates. Those came loose too.

I have since purchased a new hot glue gun that can put down a thin bead. Works much better.

You made a comment about hot glue not holding well for its weight. Even a small dab seems to hold real well. The foam rips before the glue does. If your using it sparingly is the weight that much more?

Look at my 120 inch dollar tree foam super cub all hot glue!!

Beacons what?? Beacon makes many different adhesives and a few are going to be much better on foam than the others.

Takes forever to cure, sort of stays "oily" for a long time. If you don't use kicker it seems like it will never cure.

The GP stuff on the other hand behaves like normal CA.

I like regular ZAP CA, just not their foam safe stuff.
