Hobbyking i86 Delrin Case

Update: Case now has an arrow to designate direction and it accomodates the I86 Lite board.

I have designed a Delrin case for the Hobbyking i86 control board. Case weight with hardware is 16g. Weight with i86 controller -- 25g.

Approximate dimensions are 2.25x2.25"
This case will allow secure mounting of this board with double sided tape or bolted directly to your airframe.

The case encloses the controller and all pins. Nothing protrudes from the case.

Cases are all CNC Milled, and made from quality Delrin.

Will you make them for other control boards? That looks very well done but I don't have a HK board.

Helidaho,

Thanks for the compliments. I will make anything you need. It might be a little more for the first one though... What board do you have?

Mallettron,

Thanks for ordering, I'll let you know when I mail it. I should be able to get it out today

Make these for more boards, such as the KK2 which is all the rage right now. Take advantage of that. I would buy one!

The KK2 Version will be released within the next couple of days. I have already started the design process. Stay tuned

I will be making a posting on here when they are ready.

I am also interested in the KK2 case, but have a couple of questions.

1. Will the board be firmly captured in the case so the chance of amplified vibration caused by the board rattling in the case is minimized?

2. One of the big concerns with this board is damage to the LCD. Will there be a removable cover or some other protection for the LCD?

Looks like you make a great product and I'm looking forward to seeing your new case,

Thanks

Mike

Mike,

I have been working on this case feverishly for the last couple of days. I am almost to the production phase.

Here are the answers to your questions.

On the board mounting, I think I have settled on internally dampening the board. What I mean by this is the user will still mount the board with double sided foam tape to the bottom of the case. This way the case can be firmly mounted down to the airframe, and there is no chance of user error if the case bolts are overtightened. I still want to test and fly a board with this case to make sure there are no problems with vibration before I start selling them.

The LCD protection issue is quite a concern, but in order to keep the case cheap and fairly straightforward, I have decided to just cut a "window" that makes the LCD screen visible. The entire board, and all pins should be contained inside the confines of the case, so unless something pokes through the window, the LCD should be fairly safe.

Thanks for all the compliments! I am trying to just do my part for the hobby, and I just enjoy designing.

I hope to machine the first case today, so look for a post tonight on here. I am not sure what the demand is going to be for this case, so I want to be prepared just incase I get swamped with people wanting them.

Thanks again

Chris

I don't have that board, but you could send me the board and I could make you one.. Should only take a day or two. That one would be a piece of cake
