Swept Forward Wing - SU - 47 (Version 2)

SU - 47 (Sukhoi) - Version 2

This is my new version of SU - 47. It’s the same plane posted on threat http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1645877, but with some changes.

The changes are:

It has KF airfoil n.º 4 for aerobatics (top and bottom), has no canards, and It has got just one vertical rudder.

The airfoil KF number 4 is actually very good, it definitely worth the extra weight!

This plane was intended to be just an experience, but it turned out to be very agile and precise in 3D aerobatic maneuvers.

More 3D aerobatics in the video below. Please notice the steady vertical roll at 1’:58’’ and at 2’:17’’. I can assure you that this maneuver is very difficult and demanding for the plane to achieve it.

SU 47 V2 JB ++.wmv (7 min 38 sec)

Hope you enjoy it as much as I do. Good flights!

Outstanding build.

José Bernardo

I would like to compliment you on a terrific aircraft. I am so pleased that the KFm4 airfoil worked well for you. It appears to give you great control authority. May you have many more successful flights. It must be a good feeling to have an aircraft that you built with your own two hands perform as well as this one does.

You are absolutely right! It is very rewarding to make a plane just out of our imagination. Well, it was not just from my imagination, because it has some resemblances with the SU-47. It was intended to explore the Swept Forward Wing concept, but it turned out to be a very aerobatic and maneuverable airframe.

To be completely honest with you, this is actually my 8th version of it. The first two versions didn’t even fly. The others in between weren’t as good as this one. I had to make small adjustments and correction till I came to this design.

I will post some detailed photos with the dimensions of it. It’s a very simple airplane to build. It looks really great in the air, it flies great (amazing 3D aerobatics - Like you can see in the movies) and it definitely is a turning heads at the airfield. If you don’t like the extreme maneuverability and pitch sensitive, just make a smaller elevator (the ailerons may have the same dimensions, as they don’t interfere so much in the flight because they aren’t in the prop wash).

Hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

Detailed pictures / Plans SU - 47 (Version 2)

SU - 47 (version 2) Detailed pictures with dimensions/ Plans

I’m posting today some detailed pictures of my SU-47 with the dimensions. This is a really simple plane to build and it’s different because it has Swept Forward Wings. It looks really great in the air, it flies great (amazing 3D aerobatics - videos above) and it definitely is a turning heads at the airfield. If you don’t like the extreme maneuverability and pitch sensitive, just make a smaller elevator (the ailerons may have the same dimensions, as they don’t interfere so much in the flight because they aren’t in the prop wash).

Give it a try, I think you will like it!

Sorry for the poor quality of the design, but I think that this photos are understandable and logical. I’m still learning how to use ‘Google Sketchup’.

You'e come up with a very imaginative design.

Bernardo...

You've done a terrific job with this build. Very fresh graphics. And, the plane performs extremely well. I'm so pleased that the KFm2 airfoil has come through for you. One of these days you should try a KFm4. It's faster and really locks into a groove. Also, extremely agile. Plus, is not affected by strong winds.

You're a very creative guy and I salute you.

This airplane is great because it is small enough to fit in your car for that relaxing afternoon flight after work

It’s winter time! It’s building time! Why not to try some swept forward wing. See the awesome videos above. Give it a try!...

Another video SU - 47 Twin vertical rudders Acrobatic (without canards)

This is another video with SU-47 (without canards) but this time with twin vertical rudders version. It was a windy day, but still I managed to pull out some 3D aerobatic maneuvers in between.
