Here some info:
1. Flying in GPS Atti
2. No white flashes
3. No red flashes
4. green flashes prior to take off (home point recorded)
5. battery voltage 22.8V (Hyperion 5000 mAh)
6. Ambient temp 18 deg Celsius
7. IMU not touching sides (filed out the hole slightly bigger)
8. definitely no signal loss (was about 5 meter away from craft)
9. transmitter battery fully charged
10. Firmware 5.14a
11. Gains 180/180/120/110 100/100

While on the ground the motors were still humming and executing CSC did not stop the motors. I analyzed the wave file in my editing program and it is clear that one motor(s) definitely sped up (or went to full power).
Still assessing the damage.

Waiting for vimeo to process video. Should be up in a couple of minutes.

Damn Damn Damn!
Damn Chilli, I feel bad everytime I see one of these
So you were still on the older beta firmware... It does look and sound like a' FOD from your video

Yes on 5.14a beta firmware. Have done about 20 flights and now finally was getting this bird to be the ultimate platform. As you can see the S800 was rock solid prior to FOD.

Yup, really looked like you were just hovering in calm conditions, and BAM!
Geez, I hope 5.14(b) is safer... I grounded my S800 for a few weeks, finally flew a couple of days ago because there were no FOD's posted, and now this... Only reassuring thing for 5.14b users is that it happened on 5.14a.

That is the irony. I did fly a couple of days ago in "gusting" (guessing about 25-30kmh) wind conditions. The S800 held steady. This morning was absolutely calm.

Here's another (maybe critical) point. I never mentioned it cause I thought it is normal: Every now and then there was a little twitch in the motors whilst the FC was connected via USB to the PC.

Hmm.. I have actually never connected the FC whilst the arms were connected to the main frame, so I don't know if that is "normal".
At least you did not kill anyone, and you have evidence/footage of the FOD. DJI will for sure take care of you...
With hind sight I should have just flown and FOD'd whilst the weather was nice here, instead of grounding the damn thing for almost a month -.-
Good luck Chilli, hopefully you get back in the air soon!

Thanks c3d76. I really hope that DJI will take a closer look at this one. Seems to me I'm the first to have this on 5.14a.
LOL I have to back in the air ASAP as I've got clients lined up. Now where's my F550......(grin)

It does not seem to be the feared FOD. It's not as violent and aggressive, also no full-throttle motor. It even looked like a motor stopped.
It does hurt, and I'm sorry for your crash. I would look into it if I was you, i'm certain you will find a cause.

Haven't checked f1-f6 as I was assured it was V2. digging deeper into this currently. Analyzing the video frame by frame (shot at 50 frames/sec). And AAlie might be correct with motor stop. i.e. I can see that craft begins tipping over and only 0.10 seconds later there is sound of speeding up motor. (5 frames later)

i remember i have one time motor stop, about 5mn. but when the m5 has stopped, it can still fly. i was in 5.10
maybe with the 5.14a when a motor quit, wk think the motor stopped definitely then it goes full throttle to compensate...

Quick pic of hardware layout?

RX mounted location?

Data link being used?

These crashes make me cringe, I wish we could data log these crashes.

What broke in the crash?

i'll strip the unit and take detailed pics. I followed this thread (and others) closely from the beginning and have separated all components as far away as possible from each other.

No data link used (i.e no video downlink) Transmitter Skekrum DX8 with AR8000 receiver. Satellite receiver mounted on landing leg.
Right now I'm drinking my sorrows away LOL
