I think he means me or not, but if you read the description on the video I mentioned that I then chose the low setting again and have no problems at all which is what I wanted to use to begin with. I was just showing what happens when you push them I guess. I'm sure that setting will work with higher kv motors.

FC - Both have KK2 v1.5

Setup #1 (DIY)
Speed Controllers - Turnigy Plush 25a (Stock)
Motors - Turnigy 2217 20turn 860kv
Props - HobbyKing HCB-09 9x5 / GemFan - 10x4.5

Battery - Turnigy 3000/3S (New) & Turnigy 4000/3S (New)

Tnx!
I wouldn't think that a 10x4.5 would be over propped on a 860 or 930kv motor on 3S, but are they hot and/or the ESC's hot??
Is the ESC timing low, (default in most cases)?

The PI tuning may be a contributor to your battery consumption, but I suspect there is more to it than that.

My 450 Quad with camera weighs about 1000g, has 920kv motors, 10x4.5 props and uses 1600 to 1700mAH consistently for a 8 minute flight with the KK2 v1.4.

Dont tell me this is one of those 0=100% kinda deals.. Because then ive been going the wrong direction.
Not sure what unit gain is, but it's not % like the old KK. Anyhow higher number means more gain. As a reference, on the old KK board it would oscillate above 30%. 75 was not a maximum value. I will try to test it some more this evening. Need to calibrate the ESCs through the new board first.

Is the ESC timing low....
The esc's & motors are just barely warm after 2-3 min. About as warm as
when it flew for 7-9 minutes before tuning. Nothing out of the ordinary.
I'm going to back the tuning down close to defaults and see what happens.
Nothing else has changed and it is odd to be doing it on both setups.

These are stock esc's. I guess they are set for low.
Everything was fine until I messed with the Gains.
That's why I posed the question about Gains & power consumption.

Tnx!

You also mention going from 9x5 props to 10x4.5 props and that has to effect something. It may have taken the motors out of their
most efficient zone, but that is only speculation on my part.

My Pitch and Roll = P Gain 70, Limit 80. I Gain 20, Limit 20.
Yaw is default of v1.4, stick scaling is default also.

I would think for a good, (yours) 550 setup your values might be slightly higher.
I also do not have Simon K ESC's.

It will be interesting to hear your results after turning the gains down.

Many thanks - I'll download it and flash it later today, but it might now be tomorrow before I get to test it.

While preparing my Quad with the MegaPirate board, and allow WayPoints navigations ...

I did want to make a quick check with the always reliable and easy to trim KK 2.0

I did upgrade to 1.5 the Firmware ... use almost the stock setting ... just increase some parameter by few units, since I have SimonK ESC in this quad ...

And ... here is the result on the cold ... it was around -5 while I was testing it.

Here is the result:
Aerial Video - HobbyKing Quadcopter Frame V1 + KK2.0 + KeyCam #11 (0 min 0 sec)

All in all .. the KK2.0 proven to be an excellent board, now autolevel is much more accurate, and it give better confidence on flying.

Only minus for me ... missing Magnetometer ... and no GPS connectivity.

I'm sure that KK firmware with these extended functionality will make immediately useless all the other control board

Winter time is a slow time

I got interested on MultiWii first, and then on MegaPirate

Too many projects on going ...

Since the KK2.0 is very stable, maybe it can make sense to:
- Add magnetometer ... hacking the code for it should be easy ... add the magnetometer module cost 5$
- Add GPS ... external navigation board 7$ ... GPS 23$ ...

Not sure I will do any of this project

I'm also working on making a ultra portable TX ... acceleration based TX

So ... too many things going on ...

Anyhow ... respect for the KK2.0 board ... I'm sure that if Mr KK will adopt the same chip as Teensy 3.0 ... add a magnetometer ... then it will have lot of power for have GPS as optional, and full navigation with the same format and with same LCD ... it will be mega cool
