I reckon motors around the 800/900kv mark with 10x45 props and 25a escs should do the trick. Battery wise I'd go for 2200mah 30c and upwards.

That should work good. I had a 500mm wooden quad frame with DT750 750kv motors, 18 amp ESCs, 3S 2200mah 40C battery, and 10 x 4.5 props. Weight was 1.1kg. Hovered at about 55%. Flew real good, I was going to switch to 11 x 4.7 props, but I built a tricopter instead.

I would go with a 40C battery and don't buy no-name props off of ebay. They suck. I am going to check out Gen Fans. I hear good things about them.

Using Gemfan here too. Can't say much about balancing them as I mostly slap them on my copter and fly but haven't had any problems with them so far.
