Question
What do pinion sizes mean?

Hey This is a newb question sorry for that but I need to know what is the difference between pinion sizes??? Does the lower make it go faster but less torque and the higher more torque less speed? Or vise versa? Thanks, zach

The smaller the pinion, smaller speed, smaller heat buildup. Larger the pinion, bigger speed and more heat.

A larger pinion will also reduce acceleration and run times. These statements are "generally speaking"

If you change the spur gear, the changes are opposite. Smaller to go faster. The changes are less noticeable, too. (A one tooth change on a pinion has a much bigger effect on your setup than a 1 tooth change on the spur)

Any time you are messing around with gearing changes, especially if they are a huge change to your setup (like, say, going from a 12/50 to a 15/50) you should get a digital temp gun to monitor your temps. The wrong setup will kill your electronics if you aren't monitoring temps.

The temp gun is a vital tool to have and should be in everybody's toolbox.

It completely depends on your car. What car do you have? For my rustler xl-5, a 16 tooth is necessary in the summer to keep temps down. In the winter I run the stock 19 tooth. Generally, the pinion that comes in the car is O.K., but not Ideal.
