Failure to Launch....and Repairs.

I had a prop stall incident with the Monster on about the fifth flight and it went in on the nose and left wing. Moved the repair over to this thread to keep the other thread uncluttered.

Repair Underway...

Started on the Fuz...most critical part...wing hold down. Prepared the surface on the outside then used Aeropoxy to re-attach the hold down bolt. It will take 8hours to cure then tow will go over the hold down, then carbon mat after that.

Started on the wing...drilled the hole for Epoxy then cleaned up the hole already made by the crash or should I say "Failure to Launch."
Will push a carbon tow plug through the lower hole into the leading edge then pack it down through the upper hole and allow to cure.

that should fix it...hope to be back in the air by the weekend

Just about done.

The final touches on the Fuz repair were done today. Carbon tow was put over the wing hold down for strength. I think it will be stronger than original now...might do it to the other side as well.

Have you tried taking some mono cote backing or a baggie and rub it onto the poxy/tow next time to keep surface smooth and rub out air bubbles, let it cure then peel off, I found the baggie locks in the tow and minimizes sanding in the end...

Repairs complete.

The repairs are complete on the Monster after the failure to launch...the areas are stronger than before the crash which is par for the course after a repair.

Did some static this morning with 6S and DownUnder's 7x10 folders with the new folding turbo spinner.

STATIC: 228amps....4.6KW

Might try and get some more flight video as the season closes here...snow in the forcast. Have been quite distracted by hunting of late!

Nice job arctic! It looks as though the spinner rides just inside a lip on your homegrown fuselage adapter?
Is that correct? I saw the extra cooling vents in the firewall..

The Monkey is off!

YeeeHaaa...the monkey is off my back The last flight as you know was a "failure to launch" and since that time I have been a bit "gun shy" to throw this thing again. Decided to go to the field today and get it over with. Was not going to try without some wind and today it cooperated.

Got a flight in today at 6S with DownUnder's 7x10 folders and I am quite impressed with the numbers...at the beginning of the last run it was about 4.4KW when I hammered it and 4.3 at the end of the run. Amps were 223 at begining and 216 at the end. RPM's were 23,800 and 22,900 at beginning and end.

These 45C's are saggin and I need some 65C's...then 7S

Nailed the landing as you can hear in the video. My wife was impressed she said it was the fastest thing she's ever seen...but...what do women know!?

Apex - yes that spinner is on the inside edge but I wish it was about .5mm smaller. The motor temps were excellent on landing but the ESC temps are knocking on the door of maximum

Here's today's video:
Monster 1 1 7x10 folders (2 min 37 sec)

Good going Arctic!

Would you mind posting a close up of your ICE log for one of your clean straight and level runs please?

Will you get another flight in before it snows or is that it for a few months?

Regards
Peter
