Took these photos of Don Srull's Dornier DO-X this past Saturday at our flying field--a magnificent plane.

Don first built that model in 1989 as a free flight electric and converted it to rc some years ago. He recently recovered it and it looks great. He is one of the great modelers of all time.

The amazing work is that Don designed the model from scratch--drew up the plans and published them in Model Aviation. It is a tour de force!

Cool pics of Don's DO-X. Hard to believe that it is still around and flying!!! Kudos to Don as others have mentioned, his designs are a marvel to look at.

You planning on being at Mikes on 6/30? Ron and I are planning on coming by. Looking forward to seeing you and the rest of the crew.

Apparently earlier this year a wreck was located from the war and there are plans to raise it:

I doubt that it is older--Don built his in 1989 and was electric powered free flight scale before converting to rc many years ago.

I am so impressed with Don's rendition of this plane. I saw a video of it flying as a free flight model and it flew so nice even without a pilot.

So, I ordered the plans today. I think I will just have to figure out a way to make the time to build one!
