i am suprised they went this way, the Pfalz is 41" WS with a fully planked fuse and still only came out at 26oz RTF with a 2S2200 pack in it. looking good btw.

Cheers

The plans call for a fully planked fuselage, It was my choice to leave it off aft the cockpit.

Just for the record, this model isn't prone to being too heavy. In fact, we sold a kit with heavy wood intended to be a display model and the builder made a flying model. It was a bit heavier by several ounces but the overall design is so airworthy that it made little difference and the model was one of his favorite flyers. As far as I am aware, nobody has used the stringered option.

It'll be interesting to see what the AUW will be. The lighter the better for a plane this size. This is the spirit behind this build, hence the stringgered aft fuselage at the cost of the Albatros DV aesthetic. It'll still look pretty good.

Light plastic card works very well too. Easy to score the spokes on the reverse side, and is strong enough to punch holes for valve access and central bosses. These still need finishing!

Doculam does not have the shrinkage that other films do, so this model has been quite a challenge to cover. The center section trailing edge of the top wing, particularly so. Using soft 1/8 sheet scrap, this section was built up to give the Doculam a shape it could assume.

When I'm feeling too good about how things are going, it's time to take a second look....

So what am I going to do? Maybe shorten the horns a bit and trim a little off the bottom of the rudder. I think about it for a few days while painting the top wing.

The rudder still won't clear the lines, but there's plenty of throw to steer with the live axle.
