The Albatros DVa is at the top of a short list of my favorite WWI aircraft. I built the Sterling DVa when I was a kid. Screwed a Cox .049 onto the firewall, launched it in the hay field, and we watched it corkscrew it's way into the sky. At around seven or eight hundred feet, she ran out of gas, and did not glide well. She'd dive, pitch up, drop a wing and dive again. It was pretty to watch, an aerial ballet of a sort. This pattern repeated itself several times before she augered herself into the ground. Deemed irrepairable, she was later doused in white gas and ceremoniously torched. It was my favorite thing to do with an old model... this one before it's time.
So this my second go at The DVa. The plan is to finish it like the first, modeled after a black and white one found in the Profile Publication on the Albatros DV which is still in my possession.

The lhs was out of Park 450's, so work on the fuselage is postponed.

Thanks Steve, a Park 450. This models projected AUW is 20 oz. Hard for me to believe, but even if she comes out closer to 30, the 450 ought to be enough.

Doculam is tricky to use on a small flimsy airframe.

Well you seem to be moving at a pace so far. My build has ground to a complete halt due to summer projects (new dog kennels)

On the subject of summer, I hope yours is better than ours has been so far.

We're having a hot spell at the moment, however, life is good. The way things are going, I hope to maiden this one before winter.

A more scale like tailskid assembly.

I found this illustration of Gorings 1917 V Strutter which gives an idea of the camouflage on the upper plane. I couldn't find any reference for the the DV. A really striking colour scheme and excellent choice.

That is almost the same profile pic that is in my DV profile publication #9, although the DV has a Headrest behind the cock pit. Perhaps he had both a DIII and a DV painted the same. There is no upper wing detail though there is another pic in the profile of Goring and his DV of Jasta 17. My cam is packed for vacation, but I'll post a pic of that next week. Thanks!
