Walkera UFO MX400 - No More

Original Walkera MX400 frame, motors and props.
KK board v5.5 running firmware v4.7
Power distribution board
Hobbywing FlyFun 30A Brushless ESC
Spektrum AR600 rx
Spektrum DX7 tx

Power distribution board is mounted where the original walkera esc was. The round disc like plastic is from a pack of DVD's I had. This is semi hard plastic. Had to use this in order to set the quad for X mode. Without this, my only option was + mode.

I setup the board and then did a test hover with default pots set at 50, 0, 50 with some trimming and was perfect. All I have to do now is to do some final adjustments on the pots. The quad now is faster and has a nice climb.

I do have the original walkera electronics and are in working order. I like to experiment especially with this hobby.

Hi, Jmc67

What a cool co-incidence. I today received parts to do something like that. My motivation is based on the fact that I did fry the original Walkera ESC/BEC board and as its priced pretty high here in europe I opted to spend just a few bucks more and change everything.

Here is what I got planned:
- Eagle N6 v2 flight controller
- Turnigy Plush 30A ESC's
- Walkeras RX1002 10 channel receiver (my MX400 came with DEVO 10)
- HK power distribution board
- wires, connectors etc.

Will tackle this some day soon. Started today by soldering connectors to the ESCs.

Good idea about the CD-box disc. I was wondering what to use to cover that hole.

I'm waiting on four motors for my MX400, how might I know if the board is bad or if it is the motors themselves?
Back left feels like it's binding, not spinning as freely as the others and the front left just won't spin at all.

Swap the motor wires to other ESC connections and see what happens. I am sure you can identify a connection or two which work for sure. Try your motors in these connections. If they do not work even in those connections then the motors are bad. If all work ok then your board is most likely bad.

Also, take the motor tops off and check if you still have all the motor top bearings left. They can fly away if motor top comes off for any reason.

I think you will also need a control board (kk, multiwii, ..), the heart of the system.

Yeah, I think I have that covered. The first thing on the component list is "Eagle N6 v2 flight controller"

Its in the photo too, the little bag containing the control board - below its box which says "Eagle".

Here it is out of its bag (battery for scale):

This video and the fact there isn't much hassle with firmwares made me choose it over KK etc.

Quadrocopter - Eagle N6 V2 (6 min 14 sec)

Today I decided to try different props using the original walkera motors. It was successful but was unable to balance out one of the props. However, it flew ok without any adjustments to the board. I had to use one of the plastic prop shaft adapter and force install around the hex type head on the motor. The three bearings used inside the prop shaft is to help keep the prop balanced.

Board used: KK board v5.5 running 4.7 firmware (X mode)

10x4.5 props with multiple shaft adapter.
3mmx12mm hex screw with washer
3 each 3x6x2.5 bearings

Test1 - Different props using original MX400 motors (1 min 26 sec)

Test2 - Different props using original MX400 motors (1 min 49 sec)

I did. I changed the control board to the kk2.0, updated the motors and added lights. Had this setup for a while and was a blast. After that, I moved to the naza with a different frame.
