Take some white or blue foam and build a cradle for the plane to secure it without damaging the plane when it is upside down, then you won't need to bother with worrying about damaging the Lewis gun...
Looks good.
So, what color were the flying wires normally?

Good question. I think that I read somewhere that they started out bare metal and weathered to a darker color. Maybe someone will chime in with an answer to that one.

I am considering a silver wash for them as the outside covering of the elastic thread feels like cotton.

Here in AZ a light blue top side would disappear on most days...that blue is the silver picking up the sky, plus his silver had a blue tinge to it. I like it.
Orientation should not be a problem on this model.
Congrats on a great build that looks fabulous, the maiden should be a cake walk. She is pretty light, so you have very respectable wing loading and if balanced at the CG everything should be very pleasant. You will have more than enough power to handle any maneuver she was capable of performing.
Good luck with the maiden!
Take plenty of pics at the field and the fake flying shots before committing aviation. Wait for good conditions, but photography on a bright sunny but windy day works as well as ideal conditions.
The attached photo of a 48th scale FW Ta-152H is a plastic model, almost looks real.
Second photo is of a captured Ta152H in British Air Ministry markings. So, you can see how the model looks in high grass...

Thanks for all the compliments guys. I decided to weight on adding the Lewis gun and a pilot until after the maiden. I am a little worried about having enough power. Winds have been to high to get out to the flying field yet. Maybe this weekend.

Did anyone catch my pun about the weight? LOL

For some reason the Hellcat has found its way back on my workbench.

Well, all the pix for the article are in the "can". Just waiting on the wind for the maiden. Doesn't look good for this weekend.

Bad news. Tried to maiden last night. Wind calmed down. First attempt to fly one of these models off grass. I made a rookie mistake and held up elevator during roll out and she took off and stalled. Hit pretty hard at an angle and ripped the wings off. Looks like a couple weeks to repair. But it will have to wait as I promised my wife to finish a couple of house projects.

very unfortunate mate, these WWI types seem to require a delicate touch with the the elevator and rudder. looking forward to hearing that she is back in one piece and ready to go again because she is a beaut!
