Some more progress today. Finished the detailing that I could do to the fuse before painting by adding access hatches and some piping. Then started painting. Silver is a difficult color. It shows up every flaw if you get close enough to see it. I am going to allow this color to dry and then decide if it is the silver that I want. This one seems to have a bluish tint to it.
What do you guys think about the color? Jim

Looks really good Jim. Natural light like mentioned may make it totally different. Is the blue tinge visible when in person or only in photos? If photos, then it might be related to the color temp or setting on your camera.

The color has grown on me over the week. I think it will work ok. Not much work over the week. Temps here in Tx have been in the triple digits. Not conducive to work in the garage. Cold front came through last night and high today is 84 so hope to get some more painting done today.

A little detail work. Spent most of today making the wheel covers and permanently mounting the wheels. Those ugly plastic looking wheels were given a makeover.
I have also added the tape portion on the fuse where the stitching goes but need some suggestions on how to add the stitching. To me this is a prominent feature of this airplane and I want to include it somehow. With the airplane all over silver any additional color that can be added really stands out. Jim

I figure you are wanting your stitching to stand out a bit so just drawing it on the tape with a sharpie is out? Best bet would be to scour through some of hammerd, and maltone's build threads mate, they have demonstrated a few different methods over time.
Looks great, wheels look much better. Cheers Craig |

The wheels really need to have "cones" to look like the canvas covers spoke wheels.
The easy way is to cut a disk of manila folder about 1mm larger in radius than the 'rim'. Cut a slit and overlap the paper to make a cone, glue to wheel. Sparky also makes some WWI wheel 'covers that look really nice. The other nice part is they cover the wheel retainers too. charlie |

Since the Cowboy game has been pre-empted in my area for the "Aints" I am plugging away trying to make some decent looking stitching. My latest try is to actually make them on the fuse. I tried a method I read about on Pat's Brisfit thread. The N17 is a lot smaller than Pat's Brisfit so don't know how scale it is. Anyway here is my first try.
