DJI NAZA GPS v2 Tests - Southern Hemisphere

We have been test flying the new Naza GPS v2 with significant results for those here at the Southern Hemisphere (SH) of the globe.
We are located in Argentina, South America.

Here a short video with a few tests on improved GPS lock, more complete set of tests to come.

DJI NAZA GPS v2 Hexacopter Test in Southern Hemisphere (3 min 15 sec)

Did you also have problems with WKM on original antenna?

Not to rain on the parade but you were flying in Manual. I saw no red flashes but it would be nice to actually see the GPS/ATTI performance. Red lights disappearing does not mean great GPS performance.

Yes, erratic GPS lock.

Tahoe,
Have you watched the video thoroughly? Last text clearly says "more tests to come", i should better say "more filmed tests to come" since we have been flying it before of the shooting of this video.
We shot this test on the rooftop of our office, Buenos Aires downtown, tight space with sorrounding walls, wires and a crowded avenue few meters away all during gusty winds and a mild drizzle, did not intend any auto mode for safety reasons.
The three filmed flights were reduced to what you see to avoid being boring since nothing interesting happens other than to show the strength of the GPS signal.

Been flying the Naza GPS in many conditions during these past weeks.

I can conclude that the GPS issue has been fully resolved in the Southern Hemisphere, the system can be flown confidently.

Full GPS signal was acquired and mantained during 100% of the flights, long range GPS, day/night flights were performed with no droppings.
We flew long range FPV circuits confidently with the Naza GPS including RTH too.
Im very satisfied so far, uploading video.

Hi djtibas,

What part of Brasil do you live?
Did you have to do the magnetic declination compensation?

In our case yes, we have been flying around Buenos Aires city which magnetic declination is 7 degrees. We needed to compensate for it by turning the GPS module counterclockwise 7 degrees, toilet bowl effect was eliminated this way.
We needed also to cover the NAZA CPU from direct sun hit to avoid issues with the altimeter sensor.

I live in New Zealand and have the toilet bowl effect using Naza and GPS. Few questions:

1. How long does it take to obtain a satellite lock the first time you turn it on? Mine takes a few minutes at least to stop flashing red

2. What do you mean by Naza GPS v2? DId they release it again?

3. How do I know how many degrees I need to turn the GPS unit?

1. Mine was taking about 1:30 to get full lock here in AUS, but after putting a carbon plate under the GPS that has dropped to about 30secc

2. Naza is the naza. Naza GPS is Naza GPS. THere is no V1 or V2

3. Look up the magnetic declination for where you live in NZ. If it is positive, you need to turn your GPS CLOCKWISE to compensate for the declination. So if declination is +10, then you rotate your GPS clockwise 10 degrees.

If it still toilet bowls, try a little more clockwise, or anticlockwise until you get it right. If it still toilet bowls, check your GPS mounting coordinates.

Thanks. Toilet bowl effect fixed with turning the Naza. Does this break course lock mode though as the arrow is pointing away from the front? I find that turning on course lock mode means the quad doesn't fly straight ahead now.

I left it to get a GPS fix again today and after10 minutes gave up. I am trying to find out if the FrSKY telemetry receiver could be causing the problem. I moved the GPS off the quad and as far away onto the grass as possible but it still wouldnt get a full lock. It would sometimes flash green only then drop and go back to flashing red or all the way back to three reds. It is a completely clear sky today.

Totality,
In spite of the mag declination correction i see no tendencies to fly out of track. Have you recalibrated the magnetometer after mag declination correction?

Here you can find an useful site which tells exactly your mag declination.
http://magnetic-declination.com/

You can also use a GPS application in your cell phone, most of them also include mag declination information.

GPS locks in less than a minute here, no red lights. Try restarting if you are not lucky the first time.
