Question
New Tempest almost ready!

Hello,

at first I want to Thank Rich for all his support and patience!!!

Im a total Newcomer in case of model autogyros and a bit worried about the latest news about the RPG Plans from Traplet, because the Tempest was build based on one of those plans!
So for any good advice Id be very thankful!!!

Sure all of you might say, why doesnt he build a smaller one the first Time!?

But soon I will try to give it a start and try the first hop, if it works!???

The first spin up tests where sucessfull, so Im full of hope that it might work.

The only changes to Richs Tempest are a longer Tail Boom (originally 150% RPG), propeller protection ring, Rotor Diameter of a little bit more than 3m, suspension struts on the UC, power by 8s Lipo and alittle work on the cockpit.

At the moment Ive a lot of work to do and family wants to have me too, so I cant say when I get the chance to do the first flight say "Hop" Tests.

So just in for the Worst Case here are some Pics!

Thats it for the Moment!

Marcus,
Fantastic!, I like the dash board very fitting.

To me the shape looks correct, the mast looks about right etc and I suspect it was built from an original Traplet plan? With 8s it should go vertical

Good luck with your hops, you are a brave man if this is your first model autogyro. I would suggest building and flying a standard sized version as that would teach you a lot on how they react.

Regards

Rich

Thanks a lot for your compliments

Sure Ill be very patience by trying the first hops!

Last Time I got more Time for building in the late afternoon, than for flying.

At the Moment Im working on a DAG 60 powered electrical too.

So what do you think is easyer to handle for the beginning, Tempest or DAG 60?

Perhaps Ill get the Time to visit the Inter Ex this year. Anybody there?

Rich send you a PM!

Regards

Markus

Thanks Jodini,

for a Competition itll be first necessary getting this big baby in the air

Im following all of your Threads (RPG, DAG,PCA 2...) for a long Time now, with big interest and the Autogyro "Infection" began as I first saw the RPG Thread with the first Pics/Videos of Richs Tempest, and some Mails later the building began!

To make the first Posts in this Forum, I wanted to get something together!

And with the excellent Help and patience of Rich, concerning my enduring Questions (Thanks for all!!!), the Tempest took shape, piece to piece.
So thats why I chose the puzzle finish

All of you Guys do a very good Job in Creating, building,..., RC Autogyros and Im very thankful that you share all of your knowledge!

Ill keep you informed about further progress! Trying to make some Video too!!!

Regards

Markus

Progress for First Flight

Hi everybody,

today ( after a few more detailing to see on the Photos) I managed to make the first taxi Test with Rotor.

Result is , a much to flexible Spring on the front Landing Gear which has to be changed.

New Tempest Autogyro First Taxi Test with Rotor (2 min 29 sec)

I power it with 8s Lipo an I am really scared to get it on full throttle.
I never made more than half!!!

I made some Tests without the Rotors ( and without camera), and man this thing goes fast! But without breaks

WiIl post further progress.
Cheers

Markus,
We like fast, looked like those blades were nearly up to speed on the last run...now that would have made an even more interesting video

Great detail Markus...love the rotax motor! Excellent!

What would of made a good video is if you took out that person on the bike! That would of been awesome!

Can't wait to see the maiden.....get those blades whistling!

Thanks Guys,

The Vid was made yesterday with help of some friends on my village road.

So I had enough people there to give me advice if anybody cruises along.

For flight Tests Ill go to a flying area for sure! ;-)

Regard

Can't wait to see the test hop! You'll need a big field to get those rotors spinning....or get a 10 mph steady wind and just let the wind do the job.

The first spin ups I did this way, using a hard wind

Put the Tempest in my front yard, then gave the blades a gentle push, head into back position, and then looking to a real good spin up.
Man I was really relieved as it slowed down at least!!!

Now Im wondering about how to manage a prerotator on the Tempest!

Idea is using a ECO 8 Model Helicopter Main Gear:
http://www.ebay.de/itm/Verst-Zahnrad...item2574fd3d58

The alternative available alloy version hasnt enough material for drilling new holes for fixing it, to make it fit to Richs alloy head for the Tempest.

Thats necessary because the inner diameter is a little to small!

Further Im thakful for any advice!

Has anybody an idea what kind of motor would be needed to bring a 3,0m Rotor up to operating speed?
