How to get Bang for Buck

Was thinking tonight about my early model purchases, and my aim when purchasing. Basically i wanted to go as fast as I could for as little as possible.

Which then got me thinking, what are the top "Dollar for MPH" airframes out there.

My search criteria was had to fly over 100mph, going by the top recorded speed on RCS and had to be available to anyone at a given dollar figure. I took the price and divided it by the top speed to get a ratio. Only took into account airframe only price and didn't do foamies

I came up with this top five:

1 - 0.59 - HK GL Speedy
2 - 0.64 - Speedo
3 - 1.12 - Glass Destiny
4 - 1.24 - Carbon Destiny
5 - 1.25 - Glass Windburner

But then i thought, that list is a bit funny, so i think making the criteria to have done 200mph+ and you get a better looking list as follows:

1- 1.12 - Glass Destiny
2- 1.24 - Carbon Destiny
3- 1.25 - Glass Windburner
4- 1.36 - Dynamic 40
5- 1.94 - Dynamic 60

Now I haven't researched all airframes, this is just what I got in the 20min i had searching.

Yes I know, I should do better things with my time

Kevin has a list. He builds them in his spare time, when he has time. Which is fair enough to me. Just may mean you won't get one in a few weeks. But well worth the wait!

It was you, JOe, that got me into the Destiny. So glad you did, or I wouldn't be where I am now!

I'll speak up for the mighty Thorn! It's not available new anymore, not the fastest thing around (185) and you have to get them when you can. But they're cheap and my favourite smashie. I always have a laugh when I fly mine.

Alex,
As soon as I saw your list, I wondered if the Dessy would be up there.

Shame they don't seem to be stocked in Europe anymore; seems I can only get one from SUSA & that ends up real pricey after being stung this end for duty/tax, etc.

Broke a really nice carbon wing recently, so have only one left & that's far from perfect.

Wonder if Valenta has stopped making them & SUSA has the only stock?

It certainly is, but you could purchase & fit-out RTF 3 carbon Dessies (inc. carbon-socking the eggshell fuz) for the price of an RTF Opus.

Which I think reflects Alex's original point.

The Opus is better, but refer to my original point

Dont forget the good old Zipper, cheaper than anything else, and you can build it to your own spec's.

Add in all materials, and your hourly rate for time spent building, and is it still cheaper.
For people that have time, it becomes cheep, for those that dont, it becomes more valuable.

Add $60 for materials and it's still cheaper.
If you can find time to fly you can find time to build, not every day has wind.
