Possible flying site change. We should know within the next couple of days.

This new site is huge. The NW corner of the flying field on Newark, heading east to Rt 47 is 0.3 miles. From Newark Rd to the Central Sod office/parking lot on Rt 47 is also 0.3 miles.

12915 STATE ROUTE 47, NEWARK, IL, 60541-9552 US

The current flying site at Rt 30 and 111th is flyable but, assuming we get permission, SOAR would prefer we fly at the new site.

Looking to do some last minute cleanout.

Anyone interested in an Eflite 25 Cub? Pristine condition. Ready to fly if on 72MHz. $300

Also have a Sleger Condor. ~110" (I think) Fantastic condition. Put a battery in and fly on Airtronics 72MHz. $300

I can bring either to Chicago, or maybe NATS if I can get permission from my ride.

OK, quick parking info:

For Saturday go ahead and park at the Central Sod office off of Rt 47. You can park anywhere just don't block any entrances or machinery.

The initial plan will be to fly from the center of the field. We'll have cart available so you can haul your crap out there. Set up your canopies E-W.

One last thing: Rt 47 is a very long, straight, flat road so it's very easy to get caught speeding.

I'll be out at the field late afternoon on Friday and plan to camp there for the weekend.

Saturday Scores

Scores for today. Flew 10 rounds, 2 flight groups, 7 minutes between flight groups and rounds. It sounds like alot of time but in today's heat (and wind) 7 minutes felt kinda short by the end of the day.

And CD Steve Meyer decided to fly the tasks in order....owww.....

The winds picked up after the noon balloon. Alot of land outs and the thermals were, IMO, too weak to justify ballast and I just tried to fly smart despite the wind.
The weather was perfect for F3K: Overcast in the morning, sunny, hot, windy, calm, fussy thermals, subtle thermals, late round bloomers, and only a couple of boomers.

A special shout out to Mike Havranek who is competing in his first F3K contest. He has 3 of the 4 'tasks' completed which lets him know he's an F3K driver (in no particular order):

1. Enter an F3K contest. -> done
2. Land out. -> done
3. Get in a mid-air -> done
4. Get a 1000 pts. in any flight group. -> maybe tomorrow

Mike has a very smooth strong launch and very consistent. One more anecdote about Mike's excellent adventure: The airplane he's flying is a Cheesehead Chucker scratch-built by Ryan Thompson. Ryan generously gave Mike the airplane for free on the promise that Mike flys it until it can't be flow.

One guess who he mid-aired with today......

We plan on flying 6 rounds tomorrow with the weather expected to be the same.

First I want to thank Ben Roberto for coordinating the contest. Thanks Ben! I am glad you have much more dedication and enthusiasm for F3K than I do at the moment.

Thank you Robin Meek for your major efforts in running the sound system and hauling equipment. You are the kind of the guy we can always rely on in stepping up and putting in 100%. Pat "I have a DLG in the box" Crosby who came out both days in a row to be our dedicated scorer. Thanks Pat.

Also don't forget behind the scenes helpers assuring we have everything to run a contest, Karl Miller and John Walters and any others that I failed to mention.

I am happy to see a great group of F3Krs that showed up to battle the heat, thermals, sink, and even corn. It was great contest conditions which included easy as well as challenging air. I hope everyone was happy with pace, I did not want make it feel like a marathon.

So after 17 rounds, Craig Greening took first place with consistent smooth flying. He launches that Validol to the moon and he flies it with purpose.

Jeffery Walters our former F3J Worlds Junior, "on leave" from College, showed us he is not rusty from sitting in boring lectures all day and staying up late at those College Parties. Jeffery surpassed the veterans by using an older bagged DLG, a Ben Roberto special, snatching second place. Very nice Jeffery.

I held up third flying my Steigeisen then a Blaster 3 as a backup. I need to build up my quiver in time for the NATS.

We witnessed quite a few mid airs, DLGs dropped in the corn, and even one treed. But fortunately no seriously damaged planes, and we were able to retrieve all with minimal effort.

So the current Midwest F3Kr Top Dog for the next 2 weeks is Craig Greening! We will see in two weeks two days who the "National" Champ is. It looks like Craig is all warmed up and ready.
