A 7ch Computer radio went for just a little over $40USD ( not to me ) the other day .
How is the shipping cost? Do they add huge shipping cost to make up the difference to achieve same cost as other 450?

If you buy from Leader , they add shipping , to Oz , its reasonable ..
When you buy from Parts 4 Hobby VIA auction , its usually free shipping , making for a really great deal . [ Leader = Parts 4 Hobby on Ebay ]

Wow

Thats great !

I just finished building mine ..

Its ready for flight ..

Turnigy 9x , and pinched a Gyro of another heli ..

Was fun setting up the Turnigy , so many settings , [ just for the gyro ] , though its set up now , well , on the floor anyways .. Will give it a go tomorrow weather permitting ..

Ive never been so keen before

And its raining outside , what a PITA .

And I went to all this trouble to build as cheap as possible

My plastic 450 is ready to fly , and the weather will not co operate .

Oh well !

One of the cheapest Gyro's money can buy
The cheapest servos money can buy
Cheap ESC
Cheap rotor blades
Cheap kit
Cheap motor

Actually most components are in the mail , so I just had to borrow from my spares bin , and the gyro from another heli ... [ Dont worry , there cheap also ]

Servo's = TG9e from Hobby King [ not a terrible servo for $2 ]
ESC = Should have been a 40A $10 job from ebay , using a 30A one to just get it in the air for now ..
Gyro = Gaz126 $10 , but dont have it yet , so im using the FMT009
Blades = cheap wood
Motor = Q500 350W KV3800 $6.50 but in the post

Anyhow , kit is 100% original , was no need to swap out parts ...

Plan is to do a short review on the Leader Hobbies $9 kit , and when the other kits get here , ill do a build review , or step by step sort of thing if time permits .

Oh yeah , Hobby King let me buy a Turnigy 9x which came in the post a few days befor the kit , so I figured , why the heck not .
These radio's are never in stock ..
Guess Im lucky to get one ...

Ok

Plastic 450 heli (3 min 24 sec)

Its a little windy , the heli has come out on the light side , so combined with the wood blades , low rotor head speed , its a little wind sensitive .

kit itself , wow . Really nice !

Its begging for a better ESC [ this one may be 25-30A ] , possibly a better motor , and glass rotor blades , all of which are in the post .

I flew again , after this video , and lowered the pitch on the main blades and it flew much better , as it had higher head speed .

Im very happy with how it turned out , it just needs the parts I ordered for it , and it should hopefully fly twice as good ..

Now this first flight , was , as is , off the building board , and the only tweak was to the trim tab for ail , a bit to the right to counter a tendency to drift left .

Otherwise , it was damned close , and there is little point trying to trim more until the new parts arrive [ Motor - ESC - Rotor Blades and Gyro ] which were intended for this build .

I just wanted to see how it flew - or flew apart ! [ which it has not ]

Its breezy out there

Its breezy out there , but I just completed my 5th flight of the day [ ok hovering in the back yard ]

I swapped in a 40A ESC and much better ..

That old motor = from my RTF , broke the drive shaft in it , fixed it , but seems to lack power now , heli needs a better motor , though for hovering it seems to be ok when matched with a 40A ESC [ Timer said a little over 8min with my cheapest nastiest battery ]

And really wants heavier blades ..

I have to say , Im very pleased with the kit itself , over 30 minutes not a single issue from the kit

Darn thats a good question ...

ill have to find out .. I was just about to borrow some glass blades of another heli , but head speed is not high ..

Slight porpoising in the video , so head speed was probably around 2000 rpm or lower .. ill attach the tacho and find out ...

Ok Batt No 6

Put on the glass blades , vibration increased ? [ not good ]

But stability , whoa , it handles like a sleeping kitten ...
RPM was around 1580 @ 50% throttle ..

But my pitch curve is like 30% to 60% in the Tx

ill check pitch next

Pitch

Start 0% throttle = 4inches pitch [ or do you call it 4deg ? ]

Starts on 4 ends up @ 11 @ 50% throttle ..

Now wonder the head speed is so slow , the wood blades carry more pitch than the glass blades , so head speed may have been closer to 1100 rpm ..

That FMT009 gyro just rules ...

And I re balanced the blades , will adjust that pitch curve some more ..
Battery no 7 next

I need to blacklist Ebay for a while ..

Revised Prices ... USD

450 kit $11.26
Motor 3800KV $5.03
ESC $6.88
Gyro $10.01
Servo x4 $10 [ changed servos since I came in under budget ]
Rotor Blades $3.67

$46.85 , under budget ($50) ... This is as cheap as I can build a 450 Heli [ less radio ] ... So far ....

Ok

Plastic450.mpg (4 min 3 sec)

Pretty much sorted out ...

Not much I can do about the breeze , but the bird flies well ..

When the breeze backs off , the heli is really stable

I cant complain about this Leader $9 kit
