I'm not committing yet. If I can get there I'm hoping that I can keep it under my hat. Then suddenly when you guys are all up on the hill pfaffing around working out where you left your joiners and ballast, I wanna suddenly come blasting sideways at full gas round the last corner on Wainui, in a rentawreck Subaru bristling with planes, yelling "SURPRISE!!!" out the side window as the coffee sloshes all over Rhys in the passenger seat ... Ohh, yes that's a vision I want to keep hold of ...

Booked Flights

Ok I've booked flights to NZ.

3rd to the 20th. Now just need to find a 4wd and accommadation.

Last Time I went there we got a Nissan Xtrail which got us everywhere even up the remarkables at Queenstown.
So I need to know where the hills are and which wind direction they need?

Asto

ENE, NE, SW = Wainui: http://www.rcspeeds.com/location.aspx?Loc=79
1 hour 15min from CHCH central city

N-WNW = Tekapo: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showp...16&postcount=1
2.5hours from CHCH central city

SSW-S, N = Sugarloaf: Don't have a link, but it is only 15-20min from CHCH central city.

ENE (for not having to drive too far) Cass Ridge: Just around from Sugarloaf.

They are the main sites, but there are half a dozen other DSable sites, which aren't quite as good, but still DSable.

NZ has lots of good search engines for finding cheap rentals and Accommodation. Just google Christchurch Accommodation, or Rental Cars Christchurch
My father said he can out up two or three people. Am yet to have anyone show interest yet.

My place doesn't have any spare beds unfortunatley, but will work on that and see how things go

prices

Ok this trip I'm getting a 4wd. A Toyota Prado is what I'm thinking about getting. A bit pricey but more space. Fully insured with navigation is gonna be
$1900. Otherwise has anyone thought about a campervan and kill to birds with one stone. The issue would be when we're going to the north island
. place to stay I'll do a bit more research to see what's close to the hills maybe.

Asto

Asto I have looked at campers and they they seem reasonably priced but will depend on the size you are after. I saw prices quoted as low as $45 + insurance a night for a 2 double bed wicked camper style up to about $300 for a 6 berth
