BlueSkyRC Micro VTail - Grasshopper

So here is the latest Micro from BlueSkyRC.com -- this micro features an inverted VTail at 45* -- perfect for running Y4 on MultiWii. AlPackin is also flying one on the OpenPilot CopterControl board.

The cool Hunter-Vtail by DialFonzo & Bledi helped to inspire me to do this little bugger. I had actually been wanting to do something like this for a while.

Micro VTail Grasshopper Kits are now available. This is perfect for someone that has done Quads / Tricopters and want something different. It sure looks cool and sounds awesome.

Specs:
1811 - 2000kv Motors
10A Proton ESCs
500mAh 3s - 20C pack
FrSky D4FR -- PPM Sum mode
5030 x 3 blade Gemfan Props
Bob's Super Simple Shield (MultiWii 2.0) Y4 Configuration with Yaw reversed.

Micro VTail - Sneak Peak at the Grasshopper (2 min 48 sec)

The V frame looks good. Do they come painted green and black? The green props look good too they would help for orientation.

Here is my BlueSkyRc micro VTail quad build. I built it with HK 18-11 10g motors, Turnigy Plush 6a ESCs, FrSky D4FR receiver, a nano tech 850mAh 2S lipo and openpilot CopterControl FC. The only change from a regular X quad in the CC setup was setting the front motors yaw value to zero and the rear motors roll value to zero in the mixer as per Mixmaster Mat.

The build was very easy, CA the appropriate parts together, paint, then attach the arms with the supplied nylon hardware kit. The RX fits nicely in the tail and the battery mounts forward on the nose for balance.

I haven't had much flying time because it has been very windy here. I still have some tuning to do but it flys well and is going to be a blast. Maintaining orientation is easier than with a regular quad and its just so cool

Here's a kind of dark video I made a couple of days ago when the wind died down a bit.

V2.MP4 (4 min 2 sec)

Oh, I want to mention thanks to AlPackin for helping test this thing. We actually flew them both on the same day but he beat me in the air.

Im hooked! please let me know when these are available, I just ordered some 1811 motors and have some Castle T-Bird 9amp esc (if they will work).
I have a KK board at the moment but will most likely step up to a MultiWii using Bobs shield.

Has anyone used the T-Bird controllers previously?

Tony

I have only used the T-bird esc on planes. I am not sure how they will work on a quad.

You could heavily modify it, but you want to avoid ground strikes.

That's pretty cool. I may have to have to get one to play with.

How are those motors? Are they pretty fragile? What prop adapters are you using?
