Marcialtech Large 74 inch Flying wing, Modular wing concept .

Hello
I just wanted to share these photos , i was told you guys might like it...

Have you ever wanted a very large Flying wing ? , with more than 6 foot wingspan yet can still fit inside the trunk of your car ???... Well here's a simple design concept that i was working on a few months ago ( see photo ) .
This is just a spur of the moment design concept ( no drawing or template made ), just wanted to see if a modular wing design is a good idea, i wanted it to be put together like LEGO blocks , the angular pattern of the wing separation is made that way intentionally to distribute load stress on the base of the wing , there are no carbon fiber rods or wood dowels on the plane, motor mount is the only place where i used Balsa, the entire Flying wing is made out of half inch pink foam from Home depot.

Wingspan = 74 inch
Weight = 5 lbs
flying weight = 6 lbs ( 8.5 lbs max )
payload = 2.5 lbs
battery 4,000 mah 4 cell 30C
Flight time = 20 to 25 min.

LOVE IT!!!

How are the wings attached? Do they just pop into place, or are they anchored somehow?

I insert locking pin on the fuselage to lock the wing in place ... ( look for 6 small white circle on the fuselage )

Very interesting and well done. Would like to see a flight report and/or video. Looks to be a simple KF airfoil setup. Thank you for sharing.

Brilliant concept and execution! Do I see both elevons and flaps? How are the control connections done? How about launching? 5 pounds could be a handful without assistance.

I think you'll get swamped with requests for plans and more details. Great job, Marcialtech. Awaiting more info...

Here's the video , I recorded this today during my lunch period at work . There are 4 servo on this plane, right now it is only setup as elevon.

Thanks!
The plane is very easy to hand launch , there's a handle under the fuselage right at the CG line. It flies and glide even better with an extra pound of payload ( at 7lbs flying weight ) , great for FPV with extra batteries on board for long duration flight.

This is my new project...not exactly a flying wing so it is somewhat off topic ( sorry ) ..just for FYI anyway, thanks.

Marcialtech wing

Nice job, I love it!

Very high cool factor on the design and build. Enjoyed the video as well. Flight characteristics look nice too.

Will you be making any drawings or plans available? I would love to build a 60" version. I hike in the mountains quite a bit and am looking for something "back packable".

Questions:

What size motor and prop are you running on that? I read you get a 20-25 minute flight time on 4000 4S, thats great.

What servos are you using?

Did you ever mess around with any programing of the split elevons? Results?

Thanks for sharing,

BG

The bird wing looks quite impressive as well, would love to see a thread on that.

BTW: I saw a foam manaquin in the background of one of your build photos, do you work in a shop that cuts foam?

Thanks !,
I din't make any drawing or plans for this airplane, this was just a quick build to test how well a modular snap on wing can handle the stress around the wing joints .
The wing is made of 2 layers of half inch pink foam ( silver bottom layer and red top layer ) , and reinforced packing tape on the underside of the wing , there's no carbon fiber ,wood or fiberglass wing spar to stiffen the wing ( i wanted to see how much the wing would flex under heavy load ), as you can see from the video, the wing is holding really well at 6lbs take off weight , it flies even more stable at 7lbs ( 8,000 mah battery on board ).
I used 4 mid size metal gear servo, my thinking here was to mix them later on and see how the plane behave, right now it's only setup as elevon.
G25 motor 710kV from hobbyking and 4s 4,000 mah for normal flight , 4s 8,000 longer flight and 4s 10,000 mah for a really long flight .

I will try to document my next one and post it here when i find a time to build another one, it will most likely be fiber glassed with CF wing spar with larger motor and have a better airfoil.

The mannequin you saw in the background was for my son's super hero plane.

I do have a thread for my giant Ornithopter, you can find it here...
