Day two? Did the young Austin repeat or did the young Ashinski come back? Perhaps an upset?

They are coming. Sorry I did not post the photos and scores. I will later today. I was last one off the field and flopped when I got home after unpacking the car. Damn there was alot of stuff in that car. 2 tents, folding table, 2 metal attaches, sport tube, sound system, printer, computer, power inverter, medic bag(for my planes) streamer poles all in a little Scion TC.

So I was too tired yesterday to argue this and Greg flew some incredible rounds on Sunday but............

The grand champion was determined by daily percentages added together which is normalized for the day but does not account for more rounds being flown on Saturday. With raw daily scores combined totals are:

Austin Sloan 14,122
Greg Wornell 14,064

Without drops
Austin Sloan 16,074
Greg Wornell 15,940

Just sayin.

Great flying Greg it was a pleasure to time for you on Sunday.

Great flying Greg, Austin you just need to work harder (j/k, I need to fly more or you'll kick me down at CASA). Also nice work by Todd Demarco on Sunday (sort of flying an Aurora).

I will agree with Austin that the way these scores are done is silly. Really I have limited understanding on the whole two 1-day contest thing added together, especially if you don't add raw scores and rather add normalized scores and then count both days as one contest total. At least at CASA they are 2 completely separate contests when it comes to scoring.

they are done this way because each day is a separate contest. If you look at any tour, each contest is normalized to 100 points before they are added. the top dog in ESL, F3K Tour , etc. is determined in this fashion.

Each day is a separate contest and counts independently towards the hunt for the top Grand Champion.

I have no reason why this is done this way other than this is how it has been done since the beginning. The grand champion is the guy who is the most consistently top positioned pilot. It is possible for a guy to take second or some other spot both days and still take the grand champion position because of the inconsistency of the other pilots.

Not to worry, next year we will be doing a single 2 day contest.

I think you guys should hold a rematch next year !!!

Frank, that is the way ESL does it as one day contests. When comparing two days together it can slew total performance. You are scoring for a two day champion so why not score as a two day contest for that trophy? It has no bearing on ESL standing. That is what was done at CASA last year and what is required for the f3k tour. Since your contest was below 20 pilots it is up to you, but something to be aware of for the future.

Sounds like you all had lots of fun and that is the point anyway!

Thanks for the advice and should the club decide to do 2 one days again, I will bring ti up. this is how they had me do it and I guess since we are so ingrained in ESL TD, we just simply followed suite.

I would like to take a moment and thank all those who made this contest a success. I want to thank all the guys in LISF for the work but put out an especial thank you to:

Rob A. - super helpful and took over the task of setting up all computer related work - scoring on Sat., sound files etc. He was flawless and really appreciate his help. Also spent plenty of time getting out second computer ready for Sunday.

Peter N. - took care of drinks and setup. When help is needed, he is always the first to lend a hand. Always the first person there to lend a hand and the last to leave.

I would also like to thank Austin for getting the software up to speed on Sunday. We had issues with printers leaking, sound files not functioning and what not. It was Austin who cleaned up the issues and allowed me to be able to fly on Sunday. A big thank you to you sir.

It is only with their efforts did the contest run as well as it did. Thanks guys for all the help.

Sincerely and with much appreciation,
Frank

I think what can be deduced from my scores is: 1) sometimes better to be lucky than good; and 2) how helpful a timer can be. Austin "You HAVE to go to those birds" Sloan not only told me the right place to go almost every time, but taught me a lot in the process. I owe him a lot of my score. He was indeed the real Grand Champion. Chris Parkyn and others also helped a lot while timing.

Many thanks to Frank Nisita for working his tail off all weekend long (despite being at most only half-healthy) to make the event another success, and to him and his wife Sarah for hosting the out-of-towners at his house for a real feast Saturday. And where would we have been without Rob Ashinsky, who generously stepped up to help run the contest on Saturday (as he did at the CRRC meet a few weeks earlier)?

Great weekend with a great group of people...

Greg

P.S. Dennis: hope you successfully extricated your plane from the trees, which seemed to really have it in for you on Sunday.
