@ticketec:

There was absolutely NO damage to the fuze or the plastic pivot points.

Once you glass the stabs, be sure to balance the stabs... And use a decent size (possibly go digital) servo with proper mechanical advantage.

Good luck with ur build!!

Thanks mate,

That's good to hear that the fuse mount didn't move.

I have Hs-81 sized Metal geared servos coming for the stabs and the ailerons, with nreay 3kg of torque so that should keep it all in check.

I saw that the CS 90mm fan has come back into stock so i've ordered that and another 3 nanotech 4s 4000mah li-pos. I bought a pair of them recently for my Flyfly sabre and had been breaking them in with my FMS Fw-190 and my mates FMS T-28 and one of the packs has had a cell go bad so I will now have 2 sets of packs to be used on both models.

Only need the motor and the landing gear legs to have everything in hand and ready to go! anyone have any good options for the oleo legs? I really don't like the sloppy standard legs that come with the kit.

Thanks

dave

@ticketec:

I upgraded the oleo legs from FlyFly by grinding out the brass eyelets and replacing them with propper 3mm bolts and nuts. Also the tires were replaced with 2.25" jet wheels from HK. Will take pics for u.
I just kept the FLYFLY nosewheel, only because i couldnt source a replacement yet. ( due to the width of the fork)
Basically replace all the joints with proper bolts.
They are great now.
And didnt cost me an arm and a leg.

Cg as per instructions. Its spot on. I moved mine about 5mm aft but fly it as per instructions 1st.
You can actually see the CG black pen marks on the bottom of the wing. Just ahead of the Main bogeys.

As for stabs... I TRIED to get it to ZERO degrees. But they are slightly to positive. (I think)
Dont have enough flights on her to say exactly yet.
She pitched slightly nose up at WOT...
But that can be mixed out.

Most importantly: The stabs stayed on the aerie for the whole flight...

Good luck with the maiden!!!

Thanks.
Yes my only real concern is the stab mounting.
I reinforced the mounting of the L shaped wire into them. Couldnt face up to redoing
everything as per the previous posts as my servos were already in the "standard"
position.
With only a 6 cell set up I will take it nice and easy.
Cheers

Not good news....
Got her off nice and smoothly, then needed loads of elevator up trim.
(left the stabs neutral for first flight). Flying nicely when a mate called out saying he had spotted a puff of smoke. Couldnt see anything and did a couple of lower passes to check on stab flutter. Big mistake. Lined her up for landing and then loads of smoke.... put her down quickly and heavily but all to late.
By the time we got there well and truly ablaze in the mid section. Total loss and
only got the battery and receiver out.
Crash flight investigation has intial cause as wiring fire from speedy
back to the motor. Speedy was Deluxe 80amp.

Will reflect and decide if I will get another kit.
My 262 is due in this week so it could be a while.
Real bummer, shite of a build these Flyfly kits but they do fly nice.

Regards
Tony

Arhh Tony,

Sorry to hear that mate!

My flyfly sabre was plenty of work to finish and has given some grief since day dot! mostly Landing gear related, and if didn't look soo good i the sky, I would have parked it by now as well. Hopefully you don't loose your drive to get another one of these going.

My ChangeSun 90mm fan arrived today together with the 4s 4000mah Nano-tech Li-po's so all I really need to complete is the motor, but that's no reason not to start on this one now!

Thanks

dave

Such is life Dave.
Is 4 cells going to be enough ? I was on 6 with the same motor.
Allthough it was only 3 minutes of flying I wouldnt say it was overpowered at all.

4s???? more like x2

Running the sabre on 8s with an ARC 3675-1 and wemo rotor, so I wanted to keep the packs for the two models the same.

Thanks

G'day,

Sorry to hear about the loss.

I can say I have absolutely nothing to report with my build. I have a couple of photos showing where I left it a few months ago which I never got around to putting up.

Cheers

Nick

Finished and maiden

decided to just build it with normal nose , the model is covered with
tissue and 20 min finish epoxy mixed with aclohol , this gave great
results with out weight gain total ready to fly weight 94 oz
model flew great ,even with 12-17 mph wind .
full fly stab no problem

BAE Maiden Flight (4 min 26 sec)
