I am really loving seeing all these home built ds wings.
As Some one that has done a bit and more in progress, I know how difficult, expensive and time consuming the process is. And also how satisfying it is to see something you have created do well.

Good luck and tell us more.

Verme DS maiden and crash

Well,

Wind was light 25km/h and sun shining all afternoon, I tried to DS my Plank and my Typhoon but the DS area was too turbulent, bumping, bumping,...
Then I went with my home made rw2b verme DS!
This was first time I ever flew a fast DS shipp
I was afraid about what would happend and very apprehensive....
Then I thought: OK, Let's do it!

It flew so nice!!! FAASSTT and stable, very nimb at high speeds, the sound was amazing!!!!!!!
During more than 1 hour I didn't think on landing...save the plane like 4 or 5 times to been totally destroyed...
I crashed at the end duo to getting to self confident and start to run circles to close to ground, and like a magnet, the mountain got my plane... oww noo, bummer!

At least I got everything on camera and I'm happy BTW
I'm happy about my construction been solid enaugh to do this and also I have more material waiting for me on the shed

for hot action and crash move to 5:40
Verme DS maiden and crash (6 min 53 sec)

even after crash the wing still pretty solid...

Hope that superb wing isn't too badly damaged, André, kudos on the build. It was flying very nicely up until the dirt bit it! Do you have a radar man, would be interesting to know how fast it went.

That has some great potential! Looked like it flew and tracked really well.

Solid too!

Nice Andre.
That was ripping , sorry about the impact at the end, always good to know you have the molds back in the shed.

It will fly again , just heavier and faster.

Seriously impressed Andre! I think that vid has put your plane and your hill on the map now! And your flying too, cheeeesh you had that thing lapping so smoothly. That was fast. Really slick work mate, well done! Great camera work too - you went to some effort to get footage from different angles.

Hmm, makes me keen to get back to snaffling Jeff's 1.7m F5B wing moulds for a DS project that's been on the backburner for a couple of years now ...

I really like your house. I want a beautiful neat house like that. I'm guessing you don't have a tribe of kids trashing it constantly.

Thanks guys,

I spent 3hrs at the hill totally alone, I had the radar gun but no buddy to operate it
it doesn't matter, the target was brake the paradigm about dsing hard, fast and traking like my F5B airframe just did, and I'm celebrating this....
Will build another one in couple of months, no rush at this moment...
AvB, no kids to disturb next model building and mess the house you liked

This F5B airframe has 1.9m ws and the model weight was just 1.6kg,
I hesitate on bringing the ballast slugs, didn't believe I would need it...
wing was 2x heavy carbon cloth 6oz with rohacell in the middle of it.
I read somewhere that some DS planes use 3x carbon and no core, balsa, rohacell, etc... thinking about this option, I think will be hard, heavy and faaastt

any idea? lead at the tips?

I Reckon you'd always be better off with cores in the skin because they will always be stiffer than just cloth. Maybe go 2 layers of cloth, then cores, then another layer of cloth. This will be super stiff, if you want even better, try a thicker core. Maybe do some samples with just cloth and then the same cloth with a core. I reckon the cored sample will always be much better. Check out some of Joe manors threads (d160?) and look how thick the skin cores are compared to normal.
My Erwin uses no cores in the skin and looks to be a pretty heavy layup, but needs socked foam spars supporting almost all of the surface area to get the necessary skin stiffness. Where it is unsupported it is very floppy, even with the heavy layup.
Cant wait to see the next one!

Oh, and lead at the tips is great!
