Question
Best fuel proof spray paint

What would be the most scale appearing fuel proof spray paint for a fiberglassed wing surface?

Full Scale paint .
No,seriously....how can it look any more realistic?

IT's more what you're expecting out of it. Do you want it to look scale,or some sort of custom finish?
I bought scale stits covering materials, for a 1/4 scale Cub,and it's not at all expensive.
I spend a lot of time at an active airport.....I see paint from full flat sheen,to gloss that would equal show cars.
Whatcha' painting-that always helps.?

There's Nelson Paints,(don't have a link) and a lot of people are using latex house paint...settle down....at least 25% of the planes at Warbirds over Delaware are painted with it.
Apparently, you thin it and spray or brush it and it works extremely well.

Jug is painted with Krylon and clear coated with luster-kote. Good for gas or glow fuel.

BF-109 is painted in warbird colors

All other models are painted with latex, good for gas but not sure on the glow fuel

The appearance will be good with most choices of paint.

Scale appearance is in the level of detail you put beneath the paint.

I've done that as well and the Captain is right. I've also used Rustolium paints for my WWI birds and so far haven't had a problem. My wheels I have to touch up by hand every few months after cleaning the grass stains off. But it's not a big deal.

Nelson no longer trades. Use Warbird Colors, water based and used by most top scale modellers. You could use KlassKote if you can afford it!

Nelson is alive and well. http://www.nelsonhobby.com/

For a warbird, I would prefer Warbird Colors, though.

Hey jbess, I have self adhesive warbird decals going over latex. I was thinking of two coats of nelson's flat clear, apply decals and then apply a final coat over everything! Your thoughts please.

Two planes done this winter with Callie Graphics over clear coat

Zero is Behr latex, with Systems Three Satin Poly-u

p-47 is all rattle can

Both I clear coated first, smoothed the teets with 440, applied graphics, then came back a sealed the graphics,, works great

p.s.
The plane in my avatar is latex with the systems three + cross-linker too,, I use 20-20 fuel,, total glow fuel proof (painted graphic on that one)

good luck
