Another fairly long time balsa-based builder here (only around 50 years, give or take a year or two...).

On reflection, yes, let's be having this new forum.

Perhaps it could fit in well with the 'Exotic and Special Interest' forums?

It would barely fit with the Electric - Airplanes forum these days - much of that has degenerated to 'What shall I buy next? / How do I take the shrink wrap off this box?

So is the proposition that we have a new 'Balsa and Lite Ply Scratch and Kit Build Forum' in addition to the existing Builder's Workshop forum, the definition of which is:

Discussion of RC model building techniques, including scratchbuilding, kits, plans, and related tools, machining, etc.

or is the intention that the the Builder's Workshop is duplicated just for Balsa and Lite Ply builds, which makes even less sense?

Dude - chill out, don't have a tantrum.

I'm simply trying to understand the purpose of the proposed thread. There's no point in duplicating forums unless there's a good reason.

The balsa builders will generally want to report to the area with the respective "type" of balsa craft.. (glider, high performance, scale, etc.)
It is the logical position given the more limited numbers and specialized nature of such craft.
Seems like an uphill battle for the OP so let me help..

Personally, I would like to see the same sratch-builder revolution with balsa as has happened with the foam forum.
If such a place exist, it may inspire me to build another as I get to see other's balsa aircraft in more volume than I normally get to see in my limited searching.
One inspires another, resources are pooled, and that forum stays alive and well.
I know this presents an argument both ways, so I say YES.

I think it should be the "Balsa Builder's" forum to include everything balsa, kit or scratch built.

I'm a builder 50 + years also, and what I want to see in a new thread is an OP that will stand his ground, and limit builds to WOOD,plain and simple.
I have several threads in scale, giant scale, and restoration.
My vote was for taking a sheet of wood and a piece of paper, and ending up with an airplane. That meant finding the plans for your style model, and doing everything necessary to complete it.
AMA calls it designer's scale, starting with 3 views only.....I think that's beyond most people's desires,so the next best thing is to allow plan enlargements,or plan building to a size the builder wants.
There would be no laser cutting,or short kits.Every parts that goes into the aircraft would be crafted by the builder.
If that's out of the question, then there's always foam or ARFs
DeeBee's objections are valid......kit builds are every where....this has to be different and ruled with an iron hand. Someone spoke of fragmentation, and that will happen if the OP's not in charge.
Now-I'm not talking banning anyone, just don't answer when someone says "I'm having trouble getting UFR-2 to align with UFR-2a"....that kind of thing.
