Question
LED Light Installation w/ DJI F550 - How To?

Just wanting to see if someone kind enough could assist me w/ a question regarding LED setup. Have a DJI F550 on order with (3) LED colors I want to attach to arms. F550 is running on 4S, and lights are rated max of 3S. BEC will handle the drop in voltage to take care of LED's, but I am not sure how to effectively wire them up?

In short, I will have (6) arms that have LED strands coming off them that need to be fed appropriate voltage for power. Really do not want to use a separate battery for power.

Can anyone kindly provide insight on a CLEAN wiring setup for LED lights on this type of hexacopter? Really want this to come out clean - don't care much for spaghetti monsters.

Thank you for your help!

Is there a F550 pre-wired LED kit out there?

We have been running these 12v LED strips on 4S battery for a while now, no issues at all. Just solder them together and wire them directly to your main power plug.

Not that I am currently aware of; then again, I am new to multicopters, so I may be missing that key piece of info.

If anyone has any feedback on that, I would GREATLY appreciate it - will have my F550 today and want to get her flying very soon.

Thank you!

Really? Am I asking for trouble, aside from burned out LED lights? If only the LED lights are at risk, I have no issue just going for it, as they are cheap. However, I don't want a short somewhere, so if there is an issue, kindly let me know.

Thanks for the tips!!

I just tapped my 12v BEC off the points where the main 4S battery leads are soldered to the bottom plate on the f550. Then it was just a matter of making a 6 lead, parallel "star" patterned connector from the BEC output. I stuck JST connectors in-line also so I could disconnect them if I wanted to (switch would work too). Yeah, it's six pairs of wires, but wasn't too much of a mess: zip ties and velcro.

May I ask where you found the below curved pieces that give your F550 some additional height?

Wow, those are bright. Are they wired directly to the bottom board, or do you have a resister in there? The spec sheet has operating voltage at 3 volts. It also says they also dim?

Source for the LED's? hobbypartz or hobbyking.

Or are you talking about the power source? Just tap into the 4S battery bus.

I've always wanted to try those 1watts+ LED's. There are plenty of them here, but not sure which ones work well:

Those are for F450 but they probably have F550 ones as well.
