I saw this model fly back in the 90's, so it is an old design but it flew very well. The section (phonix) seemed to be very good and it has a reasonable camber and thickness to build, though it would need tabs.
It is on this page (lots of other intersting glider design including plank ans swept flying wings and section here).

I have both v 1.0 and the above v1.1 in my files....

That's an F3F/F3B optimised design, though, and what I need will be flying much slower and be much more lightly loaded.
In the tailless website, the Phonix profile is discussed and its best used with a decent wing loading, or its claimed to become unstable....

The Phonix has been on my "bagged wing project list" for a few years. Maybe one day....

You can try NACA Munk

Hi!

Old but proven are Munk's airfoils - see

http://aerade.cranfield.ac.uk/ara/19...report-221.pdf

You can try airfoil with flat lower surface - M5 (for small wings) or M6 ( for large wings). But flat airfoils are still rather fast for thermal flights. M8 has not flat lower surface but is the slower one (so more suitable for thermaling).

Good resource for thermal wing is

(so called "Albatross" section is rather speedy!)

or

(old undercambered CJ sections from Dave Jones).

Good DT!

Hi, Milan-
The plan I'm building from is actually a Dave Jones design.
Thank you for all the links, I will check them and make a decision. I may just go with the original profile and see how I like it.
