Our Champ had a steerable tail wheel, the usual two springs and detent. On windy days the brakes were a big help but I was never comfotable with them. The Citabria felt almost like it had a nose wheel and you could see over the cowl. Landing it was easier too.

Well since I am know as the STOL guy around Horizon and I put bush tires on just about everything... (1/4 scale H9 Cub, Apprentice with flaps converted to taildragger, Hobbyzone Super Cub with flaps and #8 Trexler tires, and now the Carbon Cub)

M3_Matt showed his so I had to add the #5 Trexlers on mine too and a UM Corsair main wheel for the tailwheel.

I had to add slats also..

Matt,

Very cool! How does she fly with the drooped LE?

Now all we need is a 'STOL competition' category for UMs!

I love the look of the trexlers but I can't get myself to spend that much on them

I can see it now, guys modifying for 4S, up thrust, six inch, wide blade props, wheel brakes, replacing the standard flaps with wide span fowlers, finally getting full elevator authority and arguing over millimeters of roll.

The videos will have to be shot at high frame rates since these things will be off the ground in less than the 1/30th of a second that a normal video frame takes.

I'd like to watch, but I don't know if I really need a plane that crazy.

LOL!

I can see it now. Don't forget the NACA wingtip mods & anemometers that work down to 1 FPM. And waiting for a brisk 22 FPM headwind....

At 22 FPM you might need a rear view mirror!

Mattfly - awesome mods. The slats are a great touch! What are they made of?

It has not been calm enough to do any real tests with them yet. They are made of balsa wood sanded into a very undercambered airfoil shape and I used stick pins so I can adjust the slat gap and angle on the wing to try different combinations.

If nothing else they should make the ailerons more responsive at lower speeds, plus they look cool.....

I will post if they do anything signifigant.

Are the Trexler tires foam or rubber, and what is the going rate for those bad-boys? None of my LHS carry them.

genuine rubber. The cheapest sets are about 18.00 plus shipping, and the prices go on up to 44.00 plus shipping.
