How about a Voodoo Reno Racer?

Try the Bixler (HK), HawkSky (Grayson Hobby), or Sky Surfer (Banan Hobby). All three are pretty much the same thing. Excellent 4 channel floaters, perfect way to train. My son started on those last year and is flying my senior telemaster now (still on a box of course). Good luck, and it's great to see someone else getting their family into the hobby.

"LEE" here on RCGroups makes a great trainer called a Pelican. I've built this plane, and the big brother, the Albatross. Both fly amazingly well. They're not the prettiest plane, but they have great self correcting behavior, and are nearly indestructible as far as planes go.

The Pelican is a very fast build. Lee provides build videos that go step by step. I'll be happy to put one together for you with ailerons, but it would be more expensive.

Not sure what you mean with finding something with something they could sell, but all three of the planes I listed come with ailerons. You could also do a supercub and cut them in. How good are your buidling skills? I have a 4 channel supercub you might be interested in.

I can build, just dont like to (check my blog on planes). Supercub with ailerons sounds interesting.

Great recommendation. What would you recommend for a power set up, something tame. Thanks, Chet

Not really. Underpowered is easier to learn once you know how to fly

5-6 lbs needs a 42-50 class motor (power46'ish). 60 or so amp ESC running 4-5s batts in the 3300 or better class.

Kinda a generalization but you get the idea.

Lol....not bad for a slimer eh?

I cheated....been readin the HK Cub thread. Same basic plane and weight

Mentioning that. This trainer ARF for 64 bucks is a smokin deal. The HK Cub is a large plane in the same weight class, ARF for 50 bucks. Gotta watch that shippin though.

How about an Eflite Apprentice? That was my first trainer and I trained my son on that as well. I think it's about 200 or so without radio. Like you, I hate to build, but it goes together in about 30 minutes.
