Well, today being the 30th April, it is time to post the poll for the Build Off. From an initial entry of 18 we have fourteen completed models and one partial structure which I have decided it would be churlish not to include, not a bad result. The poll will be open for fourteen days, please vote for your favourite amongst the 15 completed entries (well, 14 completed and one valiant attempt!). I have included photos of all the entries below to help you and for more details of any of the models simply click on the Build Log link.
I have very much enjoyed following the progress of all the entries via the Build Logs and am pleased with the response. I'm also equally pleased with the three models which I managed to produce, I probably wouldn't have built these without the incentive of the Build Off, and they have all turned out to be excellent performers and well worth the effort; I'm sure all the other entrants feel the same way about their models. I think we have proved that FROG designs look good and fly well!

Proposed "Brit Kit" Build Off to follow on from the FROG one.
Having digested the various suggestions, here is what I propose;
Build Off to run from May 1st 2012 to December 31st 2012, giving 8 months total
Subject can be any design kitted by the following Brtitish kit producers:
.....and, after thinking about it, Frog. I can see no good reason to exclude them just because we have had a specific build off just finished, there are still lots of very good designs not yet done.
PLUS...any other minor British Kit manufacturer who was advertising and producing kits BEFORE December 31st 1960. i.e. NOT such as Westwings and other current producers, if any.
Models can be built original size, scaled up or scaled down.
Models can be built as originally flown - F/F, C/L or radio - or converted to another style - i.e. F/F or C/L to radio, or vice-versa!
Models can be powered as originally, or by any other power source - I.C (diesel, glow or ignition), electric, rocket or gas turbine!!!
In order to qualify for the poll at the end of the build off the model must be completed, but not necessarily flown. As a minimum a photo and description of the finished model must be posted on the Build Off thread, but if possible a Build Log thread for the model is much preferred.
As with the Frog Build Off I will keep the first post of the thread up to date with entries, progress and build log links.
Feedback please from interested parties, then in a day or two I will open the Build Off thread.

Please count me in George. As I stated earlier somewhere I've got a thing for the KK Senator for conversion to electric power. This will be my choice for the next project. Will be original size.
May I say how difficult it is to vote for one model when all are of high merit. I could easily put down ten as my favourites!! Not that I disagree with the concept but what an agonising decision to make! Thanks to all who took part and for the feedback received. RAF_Bob

Please count me in as well George. I can only echo Bob's sentiments regarding the poll, I would give them all a vote too.
Thanks again George for all your hard work.
Looking forward to the next one already!

Thanks Bob, Paul, Jon. I had to think long and hard and changed my mind several times before voting, a really difficult decision. Still, it is all for fun and we all won as we all finished up with a nice model or models.
MS Wasp eh Jon? Very attractive, funnily enough I acquired a plan only last month with a view to an electric R/C version, but probably not just yet. Would yours be F/F? Looks like an interesting build from the plan.

Thanks again for all of your efforts with the Frog build off.
I think you can count me in on the 'Britkit' build too George...maybe i will finally get around to building the big Roman soldier after all! Though I doubt i'll turn it around as fast, light or as well made as tooheavy's lovely 80%er.
Looking through the photo's and reviewing the build logs, it was so difficult to choose one from the bunch, to be honest they all have their merits, and the build quality on some is excellent...pat ourselves on the back and say well done to all of us .
Plus...We all have a nice new plane from this participation.
Hoping to get a 'proper flight from mine this weekend if the weather holds and the heat is not to great. Some of you may have noted the slight sagging on the solite on the picture at my flying location. 9am and already into the mid thirties, not great for this covering media.

Well I got the radio version of the plan direct from MS Newcastle about 10 years ago - it's just a straight blow up of the plan to 60". I was going to put a 4-stroke in it. But since the original is now quite viable for electric I might get the normal size plan again for RC. A friend of mine built one for diesel FF many years ago and it really is a pretty little thing. Not sure if I will manage to do it for the build off though - I have too many projects on the drawing board already...

I'm also up for this one with a couple of models in mind.
Thanks again to George for all his work on the Frog thread. These sort of things need a "driving force" like him to inspire entrants and encourage them along as they build.
I know that everyone put a lot of time and effort into their models so please take a few moments to vote for your favourite.
As has been said I also found it difficult to choose since obviously one can't vote for oneself

Does making more than one entry qualify you prolific builders for an extra vote for each extra build?
|May 04, 2012, 04:38 PM|
Nope Sparks, strictly one man one vote on this poll. You can configure the poll to allow multiple choices, but that didn't seem appropriate here, and as you can see, once you have voted the "system" knows.

I note it is neck and neck between the 'big' Mamba and 'small' Centurion.
Come on chaps, get those votes posted
