I'm making (2) layups right now. Light or heavy.
The Light weight should build out to around 60-70oz AUW and will fly in 15-20mph winds without trouble. It will hover in 25mph winds with the flaps down. I've had that layup up to around 300mph with no trouble or signs of stress. I'm guessing the max for this layup will be somewhere between 300-350mph. I'll try to explore the upper end of the light layup more next time out and report back here...
The heavy layup will build out to around 95oz and will fly fine in 25mph+ winds. I think this airframe will be good to 500mph+. The heavy layup is a really stout build! The D-box on the wing is strong enough to take dry lead shot for ballast allowing it to be added and removed as conditions allow. It is feasible between lead in the tips, d-box, and fuselage belly to get the AUW to 130oz+.
Bottom line is that if the K2m is going to be your record chasing plane, then I'm recommending the heavy layup. If on the other hand, you're looking for a super fun and fast plane that you'll be able to fly every time you go to the slope, then the light layup is the ticket! Best solution is just to go ahead and get one of each and parts are interchangeable ;o)
Layup = $1,350
Heavy = $1,500

Thanks for the photos Chris! Glad to see the 368s and 398s fit OK. Lots of good options...
