Solo Pro 100 questions
I have been flying airplanes for many years. Mostly into pylon racing and then some sailplanes and combat. Mostly just love flying.
Several guys i work with all the sudden got an itch to fly helis. I have had a few micros like the havoc from airhogs and then some cheap coaxials. I then built a quad copter and learned much more from it and got to the point of looping and rolling it and having a blast with it.
So i bought the solo pro 100 as i felt it would make for a bird that would yield experience in collective pitch ccpm as well as experience flybarless and maybe some mild 3d. First flights were very impressive. The little bird was very stable and i had no issues hovering it and putting it where i wanted it.
So i then went to start some forward flight and mess with flipping it over some. This is where the trouble started. I had noticed some tail wag which i thought might be governor gain too high. This happened when flying backwards. I went to forward flight and it started porpusing terribly. I landed and found that the blades in the blade grips were allowing for some blade flap. I tightened then down some to still allow the blade to swing freely but not flap. This seemed to settle it down some. So i did some loops and all seemed okay. Then went to go into some aggresive forward flight. I pushed it forward and added collective. It accelerated quickly and then went into an aggressive porpusing then flipped over and went in. This broke the main gear, bent then main shaft, broke the swash plate and the landing gear. Bummer. I tried to save it but was able to shut it down before it hit.
Anyone have any ideas? Is this a gyro sensitivity issue? I was maybe up to about 15mph when this happened. I was going to do some vertical piroettes and maybe some cubans. I had done some inverted which all seemed as stable as it was upright in hover and slow flight.
Besides that, i was pretty pumped about my progress as i had never flown a collective machine before. I look to go up to a 450 size machine later this summer after racing season but want to use the solo pro to practice and also to fly in our warehouse at work. Any help on setup would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Archie Adamisin
