New to FPV, my 5.8ghz goes thru my house when I was told it wouldnt..

So ive been told that 5.8ghz wont go thru trees, humans, much less a house...

I just tested that theory and I was able to penetrate an entire house (1 glass door, 3 walls, and a wood front door)

Im using a 5.8ghz 100mw immersionrc with blubeam whipset, dominator goggles...

So whats the real penetrating power of 5.8ghz?

Ooo ok well how much farther were you able to get reception past your house? What likely happened is that the signal actually went over the house than through it.

Remember that the signal is transmitted in a sphere from the antenna not in a straight line. Try covering the antenna completely with your hand and see how that goes.

5.8 is the worst out of all the available frequencies in regard to penetration. Just a fact of physics

Oh and usually it's the water in people, the leaves of trees, clouds, etc that cuts the signal. Doors and walls are fairly dry.

You'll also find that humidity will influence range. The 5.8Ghz signal will go 'through your house', after all 5.8Ghz is used for WiFi as well, it's just a matter of how much your range is reduced by having to go through solid objects.

There is no accurate, meaningful way to describe the actual 'penetrating power' of a given frequency/output power combo because there are so many variables (noise floor, antennas used, etc.)
