Falcon 56 hybrid in depron at .85 size

Hi All
over 30 years ago just after I leant to fly I was given a falcon 56 it had been modified with flaps and large outboard ailerons . I found the plan on a uk database of vintage plans www.outerzone.co.uk and downloaded it . My original was powered by a webra 40 and was a real dream to fly .Now over 30 years later I found the plan again and i'm building a .85 size at 48" in span it will fit happily in one piece in the boot of the estate car . This one will be powered by a 3530 brushless motor and be constructed in depron . I will start to post photos as I progress

At present I am considering modifying the wing section to a kfm6 and rigging the model 0 0 0 to increase its aerobatic characteristics

regards emma

Pre Flight Photos from later posts

Editted 21st May 2012
Here are the first pre flight photos from later posts

The test flights went well But I would suggest a 3536 motor and 2200 lipo and a 10" prop
the 3530 was screaming its little heart out on a 9x4.3 prop just like an IC motor

below are the photos of the 42" Falcon 2822 motor 9x4.5 30amp esc and 1000 lipo

Baby falcon 1/2 size added 12/9/12 still needs pushrods etc estimated 400gm auw

This is nice. I started with a Falcon 56 in 1969 and an OS 35.
It was Thailand and we couldnt get nitro so we just used alchohol from Bankok
and castor oil from the AFB.

Still it was a solid fun flying trainer.
I know the plans are in a box amongst a roll of many othe rplans.
I've been meaning to do WHAT you are doing .

Thanx for the outerzone tip. It saves me the trouble of all the searching and scaning.

Made from Foam we could call them Foamcon 56 as in Foam construction.

Are you going to try a full FOAM but built up like balsa type construction ?
edit later: sorry I reread you are doing kfm.

Will you be doing plans or should I get started on my version of plans ?

Good luck with you ideas and build.

Thanks Bob

Wont be doing plans I use the original plan on outerzone and printed it out at 85% the outline of the" foamcon" will be very similar to the original the formers will be a ply faced composite .it wont be a built up wing as such ( see the jackal thread ) more a main spar and depron covering .or a kfm wing

I want to put 1.5x 3/8 strip ailerons on mine with a non dihedral wing and possibly inboad flaps just like my old one

this thread was started as I think I trud on someone else's patch yesterday so everyone is welcome here all ideas and any size I'm sure someone will make a hugh one and others cut down to 39"
I've reserved the first few posts for photos of the finished items . the concept is not for first time builders but for anyone who wants a go at building an old faithfull who's origin is half a century old using their own methods to get their results .
So Come on lad's lets get building and have a fun machine and for us oldies a trip back to memory lane without the smell of nitro in my case!!!!

The foam falcon artf has now been released at 37" span if built it that small I would have to fly it in circles like a control-line model so I could see it.

As soon as I get the Image extracted from the PDF I am going to CAD for
my version of the plans.

I thought it might b fun to try a built up wing with 6mmfoam ribs and 3mm foam covering
and a bit of CF in the spars.

Probably some .8-1mm play laminated foam parts in the forward Fuse to soak up abuse.

Whats the link on that other thread ?

Thanx

NICE. I'll be following this build Emma. Looks like it will be a real winner at this size, material, and motivation system. The KFM sounds interesting, but Bob's idea of a built up foam wing great too. Maybe we will see both for comparison!

Good luck and looks great so far.

Hello, am very interested in this log.
I'm back into r / c and it seems that the price of balsa has increased incredibly. I was wondering already if I was not going to build a Falcon 56 out of foam. I understand that you will use a kfm6 wing section for yours. I think I'll try to reproduce the original profile.

I do not have much experience with the foam. I have only one BluBaby 42 (kfm3) under my belt.

I will read with interest!

This is one of my favorites, here on RCG too. Vintage & Olditimer Plans. Check it out, then pray for two hundred more years to build 1/10th of the plans there!

Hahaha...... I do want to build one! You caught me! Problem I am 2-3 days into a Hawker Hurricane build, 80% done on a micro F84 27mm EDF, not counting the others that have dust on them...... I'm a naughty boy because I have to force myself not to start another 20+ builds every day. I'm sick I say, sick.......

Waiting for more........ more.......

Fred

Oh, BTW...... 3mm white Depron, or 6mm gray Depron makes a great fold over spar wing that can Really be the same as a Clark 'Y'. Semetrical that way is a bit harder. Don't tempt me to post a nini-how-to somewhere. You might just love it.
