This thread is kind of getting sidetracked. Maybe you guys can start another thread about these other platforms please so that we can focus on getting our Ecilop's tuned up here.

btw just received G105 gyros so I will be trying those too. Just motors, battery, and fpv gear to go...come on postman.

Hi AliB, seams that u use a small FPS, because the flicker at image.

Can you post what was your camera config?

im using the nex5n at 50fps, but then it gets converted to 25fps in premier.

the slight flicker could be the rendering, or my motors/props slightly out

Its more visible when panning. Also great footage!

ahh ok. i always thought that was a problem with panning quickly with cams on multicopters. anyone know how to get round it? is it setup/editing/rendering problems?

cam settings were.. iso200 f6.3 1/160 50p

One note to APM FC users regarding the camera gimbal. In the documentation, it suggests hooking up the roll and pitch servos to OUT10 and OUT11. However, these only have a refresh rate of 50hz. Alternately, you can instead hook them up to OUT7 and OUT8 (on the rail where your esc's and motors connect) which have a refresh rate of 490hz. These outputs will not function until they are provided power on that rail (which usually occurs when your esc's are connected).

I still do not have a complete test, but from my understanding this should smoothen gimbal operation with high speed digital servos.

On a side note, for those who like to tinker with this kind of stuff, I came across an open source headtracker thread (cool in itself) that could probably be modified to be a stand-alone gimbal controller if mounted on a frame.

I think your video really shows the smoothness of the camera platform. The flickering is not so bad as to bother me. But it may be due to using too short a shutter speed (1/160th)... noticeable especially when panning. This is counter-intuitive to many as people think a higher shutter speed will give sharper images. True, but it can also make the video choppy. The slowest possible shutter speed is generally the way to go but you'll need a shorter shutter speed at faster frame rates of course as you can't film at 50 fps using 1/30th second shutter speed.

Try filming at 30fps using 1/30th of a second and see if it is less choppy between frames.

Have you or anyone else on this thread used a GoPro on the Ecilop? If so can you mount it so that it won't show props or landing gear in 170 degree fisheye view?

I think you should shoot on multiples of your fps speed, so ideally 1/50th for 50fps (so 1/60th for 60 fps) or 1/100th (and 1/125th for 60fps) if too bright or use a neutral density filter. Higher shutter speeds don't allow adjacent frames to blend together smoothly so moving objects or pans appear to stutter.
