why not big outrunners?

some actual speed cup model drive data (only for comparison):

for the soon comming "harpyie" project:
12,4" x 24,9" folding prop with >16500rpm.
you can calculate the pitch speed with these data.
needs 42V (12S)and 283Amps. = 11.8kW
more with warmer battery.
motor is special q 5035 outrunner.
so far no problems on the bench with YGE 320 HV esc.

the smaller "eagle-t" will use this year 10S (35-36V) and 215Amps (7,5kW) for 14450 rpm with 12" x 24" folder.
additional middle parts with +1°; +2°; +3° also are into the toolbox.
motor is a special4235 outrunner.
also the 5 bladed 8,5" x23" folding prop will come in use as alternative.

marcus will use a special 4535 outrunner with his brand new "typhoon".
also with 12" x 24" folder and high voltage setup for up to 15500 rpm.

Hi guys!
Here the first picture of Stefans new Typhoon for 14S setup 4535 Powercroco and 12x24 prop! Maiden was last weekend only with 10S and everything went perfect exept for the sudden starting rain which made us completely went within one minute !
The last picture is the first Typhoon XS wing on my typhoon fuse and stab!

Ciao, Marcus

Nice work Articflyer, very interesting, looking forward to seeing how that motor prop combo unloads in the air.

Also hello to our speedcup friends from Germany!

I wonder if you would (Markus and Scorpion-fan) please consider making a *new* thread for sharing your speedcup pictures and data? It's awesome you are sharing it with us, but it would be even better if it were put in one thread, rather than scattered all over the place. It does my tiny brain in to have to search through many, many threads to find these randomly placed pieces of gold!!!

Good to see some Speed Cup guys show up on the thread. What is the date for the Speed Cup this year? I've got a credit with Delta and I've always wanted to visit Europe!

Recognize those blades Marcus?

The Monster is ready for maiden but the weather is not good today. Very gusty winds...want some wind for the launch...but don't want the sudden gusts.

Hopefully an hour before dark things will settle down.

Hi Arcticflyer!
This years speedcup german championship is Juli the 20th-22nd in Osnabrück!
There is also a speedcup in wünneberg this year end of may! Sadly i have no time to go to Wünneberg but Osnabrück is booked!
The blades look nice on your monster!
Good luck with the maiden!

Hi Henke!
I think a 160 turbine will look well on this 210 cm Typhoon beauty! A 120 on the Typhoon XS and a 80 on the Typhoon XXS !
I should try it and the wing will be strong enough! With this layup it is designed for 70g loads !

Ciao, Marcus

HOLY COW....knew the minute it left my hand it was rotten tail heavy
I had fifty percent expo and even then if you breathed on the stick it would pitch sharply up or down.

The wind at the field was still a little gusty so I told all guys at the field that the landing might be ugly and everyone stopped what they were doing and watched...it got really quiet when I set up for landing.

Started the approach from way out and scrubbed off some speed and managed to get it on the ground without incident which was a miracle

I came home kinda bummed out but HAPPY that my speeder wasn't a ball of carbon fiber

Back to the bench...I tried balancing that thing the rest of the evening...and for the life of me the only way it will meet the CG that the guys who made it said it should be at is to put the drive train in this order: Motor, Battery, ESC. What a pain.

Can possibly get a cheepy 200AMP HiModel ESC tucked in behind the motor with room to move the battery forward but I will loose the data logging of the ICE Lite.

Well done on getting her down in one piece!! Been there before, not a nice feeling!!!

Bummer about the balance issue - are you sure you can't get a tad more weight in the front? I.e. a small amout of lead somewhere?

Downunder - Tried the lead but it just took to much...might direct solder the motor to the ESC which will give me some more room to move the battery forward and I might switch to a carbon fiber control rod for the elevator instead of my aluminum arrow shaft rig.
Time for bed...will work on it tomorrow!

Why don't you solder the motor on in typical 'F5B' fashion;

Should get your controller up forward by almost and inch by the looks of it?

You know where to reach me when they are ready... would be cool to try the small one with two engines. The Opus V-jet is a proven concept but this might be faster?!

Long Battery or Long Motor Wires?

What is the "BAD" one long motor wires...or long battery wires?
I saw it before but can't remember...I can get it to balance at 30% (70mm) with the Motor Battery ESC lineup. I am going to do some creative soldering this morning so hopefully things will improve

Gerben - even soldering that Ice Lite 200 direct still won't bring we to where it needs to be...that ESC is LONG. Might switch ESC's but don't want to loose the data logging.

Here is the rig...For Now...until I can figure something else out. It will at least get me into the air and get the CG nailed down then I have a good solid base line to work with.
