tjoachims model is almost to fast for the camera!
also with you own eyes you would have problems to follow it.
you can calculate: with its 130m/s it needs only about 1,5sec to go through the 200m distance!!!
10S battery; HK 4225 rewinded; special calculated 7,7" x 13,8" with up to 26000rpm into the measuring distance.
same wing as also chimera has.
so your 7" x 13" folder also should be good for your model.
in the fastest run he came down from 480m.
in the turn point he had 360km/h speed and then he had 450m (straight down) to accelerate to the measured 471km/h.
btw. this speed was about 85% of pitch speed - so we have an evidence again, that the assumption for reaching about 85% of pitchspeed is near by the truth.

Great info scorpion! I wondered about his setup. The converted nitro airframe was a great idea for more space!
Do you know what ESC he was using?

(older) yge 240HV with 8kHz and 18° timing, "plane slow" for acceleration.
the actual yge 160HV is also strong enough to give the needed amps.
its good for 200A for more then 30 seconds duration - but not my battery.

We got the Cyclone up to 232 mph today. The Hyperion GS motor is working well, but it is near the limit now on 5S and may get pulled out soon for a rewind. Still an impressive motor for the money.
I know we're still way behind the Germans, but we are making some headway! Mark wants to see the Cyclone hit 250 before we go to a bigger plane and he has recently made a wing in carbon for this sort of thing.
I wonder if an outrunner wouldn't be a better choice for the Monster? You can swing a lot of prop!

Hey Steve - Let me know when you do the rewind and post it up...I have done some rewinding on some smaller motors (400 size) and they are still running strong.
Not familiar with the Cyclone airframe like to see some pics.
Our day will come! For sure outrunners are the way things are going...they seem to get rid of heat better. Might get one of those Scorpion kits and wind one myself.
I'm kinda in the hold mode right now waiting on props to come from California (Amain) thermal glue to come from somewhere else to finish the mods on the Ice Lite 200 and my 65C batteries to get here from HK (NanoTech 5S 65C 3300's).
Then we are off to the races again. I watched my video again of the 204mph pass and it was really not a good pass for measurement. It was not over the camera but well off to the side which means that pass was a bit better than I thought. Really believe that this NEU setup will get me over 220.

steve will try a horten like monster:
1,8m wingspan, up to 5kg into the FAI reglement.
5 blade pusher 8,5"x 23" with a lot of power
I will try my harpyie soon:
2m wingspan, also up to 5kg.
also 5 blade 8,5" x 23" or 3 blade 12" x 24" or 2 blade 13" x 27" with up to 16S battery and some kW.
marcus will use the big typhoon with 210cm wingspan:
also with big prop, big motor and up to 16S
in fact the visability of bigger models also for the measuring system is better and they seem to be "feeled" slower for the pilot.
we communicate only the FAI conform (200m distance in 5-35m height) measured results - using radar or doppler we just got some very incredibly fast speed results for this short moment.

Great Stuff Guys - I agree bigger is better!
QUESTION: With these super high pitched props how much longer does it take for the prop to really (can't think of the words) kinda like back when I rode 2 stoke dirt bikes we used to call it "come on the pipe" and that was when the engine was making the most power.
Is that why alot of guys fly a U shaped pattern? To dive the prop into the most efficient range and pull out then hold it there...Hope that makes sense!
Could you guys take some close up pics of how you are controlling airflow INSIDE the planes (scoops and vents) Think I see some NACA's (both standard and reversed) to help with airflow! The outrunners on the outside solve the problem of motor temps...was wondering about your ESC's and batteries.
Are you guys using RDS systems for your ailerons?...am thinking about that for the next Monster build.
Great information guys please stay hooked in!

the esc lays between the 2 holes in front of the wing.
it lays (naked!) over the 3S front battery with 5mm wooden spacers for airstream.
the motors is separated as good as possible.
there is only a small hole in the firewall for the wires.
no hot air comes through the motor into the body.
the hole behind the wing is for the antennas and the warm air from batteries.
the radio is behind this hole.
so system has almost no heat connection between motor, esc, battery and radio.
here you can see, how the 12 x 24 folder climbs out of the hand just with 8S and almost without throwing!
only low rpm /amps are enough to get the needed thrust.
the second peak shows an accelation.
the point of maximum grip of prop and the following decresing of amps with the acceleration of model are visible very good.
in longer flights to full speed the amps goes down up to 120A!

I love the carbon flying wing.
How are they launching it?
I know you guys don't like radar, but it's all we have right now. Our planes are not slowing down during speed runs either. The fastest speeds are right as they pass the radar gun. Also have not done 400 meter dives! I think we'd have trouble seeing an F5D size plane at that altitude.
If I get an urge to take the Hyperion apart, I'll be sure to take some pics while I do it. In the meantime, you can check out Ralph's powercroco site. That's what I do! I'm really impressed with the Mega 22 series rewinds and the custom Kontronik Tango. I'd like some of those stators, as one of my Tangos broke (winding came loose and cut on the spinning can) and left me with a perfect rotor.

Rewinding a Mega 22 size inrunner?!
That's some serious surgery!
Got a link to the site where they're doing this?

That rewound mega 22 is awesome. Want to rewind a Mega 16 Ralf?
The baby monster (Lp1.1 @ 2.2kW) has smashed 200mph now, Think I need to upgrade to the big daddy monster...
