Rudder servo

The rudder servo (all the servos) is glued in with hot melt glue. For the push rod I used .080 carbon fiber rod. On one end I made a Z bend out of .032 wire and on the servo end I just used a straight piece of wire held in place just like the slave struts. I used an ez connector on the servo to make adjustments easy.

elevator servo

The elevator servo gets the same treatment as the rudder servo.

Tail skid

The tail skid is a piece of .032 wire bent to shape and glued in.

finished pic

Here is a pic of the finished model. Test flight went fantastic with no trim changes. I used a 3 cell etec 250 for light weight and great power. The gym has a fairly low ceiling but I was able to do some rolls and managed a decent hover. I am working on indoor torque rolls, but the ulty will do them.

one more pic

Here is the last pic, I promise. This is best of all the indoor aerobats I've tried. I really enjoy flying it indoors. I can fly as slow as the Tiger Moths and make inverted patterns with them. Yet, it is still fully aerobatic. Don't take my word for it, build one for yourself. Thanks Tim for the inspiration.

The last pic is too big and its too late to work on it. Maybe tomorrow.

Absolutley fabulous! This just totally rocks! Isn't this the best? Doing 3D on inexpensive equipment that almost anyone can use.

Don't cha just love it? More!

May be try an IPSD to be 3D and get great vertical climb!

dual drives

I've tried the IPSD 4.8 volt A geared drive with 2 cell lipoly. Tons of power but the single works well on 3 cells. I know motor life is an issue, but you save about 20 grams over the dual drive in weight.

One other note now that I've gotten some time on it. I went back and used hot melt glue on the foam to foam joints. The CA seemed to flimsy. I probably will only use it for field repairs in the future.

Does anyone have a single sheet pdf of the plans? I have access to a large format DesignJet and would like to print on it instead of putting together abunch of tiled pages.

Thanks,

Dru

JPFlyer, can you show a closeup pic of how you attached the landing gear wire to the bipe. It looks like you used a plywood sheet on either side of the fuse for added strength. How did you attach the wire to this securely?

Thanks.

Barry

flight shots

Did the indoor thing tonight and got some flying shots. I will try to post them soon.

bmizes
I attached a pic but it may be too small for detail. I used a small rectangle of 1/32 ply on each side of the fuse. There are two small holes drilled at the top about 1/8 on an inch apart. At the bottom is one large hole about 1/8 in diameter. I bend a 90 degree bend at the top of the gear long enough to just come out the other side of the plywood when mounted on the fuse. Mount one on each side. Then I use a small nylon zip tie and loop it through the bottom hole around both gear legs and zip it tight. If I want to fly without gear I just cut the zip tie.
