80 inch wspan Sopwith Triplane

Finally, after 45 years of static display and living in a crate, it FLIES! When this was built and flown one time in 1967, they had no idea electric powered RC planes would be so popular. This 80 inch wingspan plane flies great on a Tacon 110 with 7 Lipo cells. ITS ALIVE!!!!

I am amazed that after 45 years the silkspan and dope are intact. Most often the dope shrinks to the piont were it warps the wings or becomes brittle, whatever comes first. Great plane, would love to see a video. One is to asume that was scratch built?

Heres a short video of the first flight a buddy of mine took. Next time, we will get video of both Tripes at the same time. We had to give it max downtrim to fly it the first flight. You can see how it just jumped into the air. This was built with an adjustable horizontal stab, after the first flight I adjusted it and the elevator to give it a whole lot more down and it flew great.
